Find Ancestors

Cecilia married my gr grandfather Arthur Shewbrook Pomeroy in Dec 1877 in Taunton, Somerset. I have Census records for them for 1881 and 1891. Arthur died in 1892 in Reading.
She was born about 1858 in Oswestry, Shropshire and died in Reading in 1941.
I haven't been able to find any records of her birth or where she lived prior to her marriage in 1877 or after her husband's death in 1892.
Any help would be appreciated.

1901 Census is definitely my gr Grandmother. She was apparently known as Cecilia Annie (Cecilia A. Pomeroy). She was a widow in 1901. It also confirms her birthplace as Oswestry, North Wales. Living so far away, I don't know the area, but I thought Oswestry was in Shropshire, maybe it changed at some point.
The Census also confirms her birth year as "abt 1858"

Based on the above and 1881 and 1891 Census, I'm not sure about Tayphena born abt 1857 in Castle Cary, Somerset, England
Also not sure about Tryphena b abt 1856 in Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales
She would probably be listed in the Census as Cecilia not Tryphena as that was her second name.
The 1861 and 1871 Census would be what is needed but I can't find her in any of those.

martin if you haven't got the marriage cert then you could order it online from the offical site.Had she been married before as index gives her name as Cecilia Anna Roberts !

Perhaps she wasn't married previously? Perhaps she is Cecilia Anna Roberts- this would fit with an entry on th 1861 census- born in Oswestry.

OOooh too complicated!! Could do with that marriage certificate to see if she was previously married or who her father is.

No, me neither Jan- wonder if they went to live with another family after their father's death, and took different surnames. Can't see any definate marriages for them either??

I'm presuming Martin knows what happened to the boys- and is a descendant of one of them, so perhaps he can enlighten us! I love a good mystery :)

Hi to all you enthusiastic researchers. It's 22:00 here at the moment, so I'll try to digest the information tomorrow.
Ralph Alan Pomeroy was my grandfather. He had a brother, Archibald William. in the 1891 Census the family was living in Gloucester. They had a sister Ethel born in 1892, shortly before their father Arthur Shubrook Pomeroy died.
All three children emigrated to South Africa from about 1895 onwards leaving their mother Cecilia in England.
They all married in South africa from 1904 onwards.

I have a copy of Ralph Alan Pomeroy's Birth Certificate. In it his mother's name is given in the column "Name and Maiden Surname of Mother" as "Cecilia Tryphena Pomeroy, formerly Dyke".
Dyke could nave been either her birth surname or previous married name, I'm not sure what the normal practice for filling in Birth Certificates was.
So I'm still confused until I try to sort this out tomorrow.
