Just received today a marriage cert for who I thought was a relative but on looking at the fathers name on this cert it doesn't tie in with what I've got.
All I had was Doris Maw and I looked on the Free BMD and came across Doris Maw married 18.6.1927 which fit around the dates I had so sent for the cert.
The Doris I have has father Arthur James Maw and mother Mary Ann Cryer - mum died shortly after giving birth in 1910.
The Doris Millicent was born according to the marriage cert around 1903 and her father was Henry Maw of whom I have no mention.
The link apart from the name Doris is the area of Barnsley, Yorks. Can anyone please tell me anything about Doris or her parents - Henry especially as this could be a break I'm looking for with another family member.
Doris Millicent and dad were living at 23 Kings Rd, Cudworth at the time of marriage in 1927
Thanks

Just meddling around --
there's this one in 1901:
Name: Henry Maw Age: 24 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1877 Relation: Son Father's Name: John Mother's Name: Grace Gender: Male Where born: Norton; Malton, Yorkshire, England Civil Parish: Norton Ecclesiastical parish: Norton juxta Malton St Peter Town: Norton County/Island: Yorkshire Country: England
who seems to have married in 1901:
Name: Henry Maw Year of Registration: 1901 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Malton County: Yorkshire - East Riding, Yorkshire - North Riding Volume: 9d Page: 843
-- to Mary Margaretta Turner or Annie Louisa Cheese -- who might be a potential father.
But aha, Doris Millicent must be this one:
Name: Doris Millicent Maw Year of Registration: 1902 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Gainsborough County: Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire Volume: 7a Page: 715
so it looks like she was actually a transplant, and this would most likely be that Henry:
Name: Henry Maw Year of Registration: 1899 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Gainsborough County: Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire Volume: 7a Page: 1019
-- to Mary Elizabeth Carr.
|
And this would be a child they had after the move:
Name: Herbert H Maw Year of Registration: 1916 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Mother's Maiden Name: Carr District: Barnsley County: Yorkshire - West Riding Volume: 9c Page: 382
That's my theory, anyhow!

And sticking with my theory, here they are in 1901:

Clarence Edwd Maw 1 Ernest Luther Maw 2 months Henry Maw 26 Mary Elizth Maw 24

Looks like a separate bunch, unless yours were transplants too. In 1881, Henry's father:
Name: James Maw Age: 50 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1831 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Ann Gender: Male Where born: Althorpe, Lincoln, England Civil Parish: West Stockwith County/Island: Nottinghamshire Country: England Street address: 4 Pump Yard Condition as to marriage: Married Occupation: Gen Lab Registration district: Gainsborough Sub-registration district: Misterton

Jeez, I wish Ancestry would just remember for itself that Jas=James. Finally found James, Henry's father, in 1851:
Name: Jas Maw Age: 19 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1832 Relation: Son Father's Name: Thomas Mother's Name: Mary Gender: Male Where born: Althorpe, Lincolnshire, England
Name: Thomas Maw Age: 48 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1803 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Mary Gender: Male Where born: Haxey, Lincolnshire, England Civil Parish: Owston Ecclesiastical parish: Owston County/Island: Lincolnshire Country: England Registration district: Gainsborough Sub-registration district: Owston
Eliza Maw 16 Jas Maw 19 Job Maw 7 Mary Maw 45 Thomas Maw 48
So -- how'm I doing?
