I understand the name Sansom originated from a Welsh bishop who coudn't spell, and transposed the n and m from Samson

i also have the same explanation-and a lengthy one at that from a post on ancestry .he was called saint sansom and there are still churches in france you can see.
as for the french revolution there was a sansom there- he was the axe man and said that there were too many people for him to behead on his own so the guilotine was invented!
