There is this birth that you could look into on census and consider getting.

Births Dec 1882
Webb Florence Emily Bromley 2a 430

There are no Florence Emily Skinners right place right timeish.
And no Florence Emily Webb born in Surrey, this is the only one that matches any of the criteria with an Emily in..

She may have been born illegitimate and taken in by the Skinners or was orphaned early andgiven her mothers maiden name Skinner to be the same as the rest of the family.

The Quarter is right for her birth and years often were wrong in peoples memories.

If it came back with the right date and month for her you could be pretty sure it was her.

There was an Emily on 1891 census with the Skinner girl and maybe the W after Florence is wrong?

FannyByGaslight Report 8 Jul 2010 22:21

I dont think they married for some reason as no marriage can be found for them.

The 1911 census was filled in by them so why say born Surrey if she was born in Kent.

Skinner or Webb?

Webb if it were me, as why would she say on all the childrens births that her name was Webb.

I wondered if Skinner was a Stepfathers name that she took until she had children.

Or maybe the prayer book is not hers

Where did you get her exact date of birth from?

Patricia

Patricia Report 8 Jul 2010 22:15

Thanks. I think the 1911 reference is definately the one but not sure which one is the right Florence in 1901.
Why do you think I am unable to find a birth for her when I know the dates? I always understood that she was born in Kent but this could be wrong. Should I be looking for Florence Skinner or Florence Webb? Maybe Florence and Frank Sillwood didn't actually marry? I have lots of photos but no wedding photos for them.
Thanks for your help.

Thank you everyone for your help.
Florence's children were: Frank William born 17/6/1908, Irene born 1913 and my father John Kenneth born 28/11/1919. I don't know about a James but have heard about a half brother who went to Australia by the name of Jack (this could be James?).
I have been able to find no record of Florence's marriage to Frank William Sillwood although in the 1911 Census they are together and it records her as having been married for 3 years and at that time they have one child, my uncle, Frank William.
Where could the Skinner have come from - I have an inscription in her prayer book saying "Florence Skinner given to her by Her Loving Aunt Mrs Beadle" and the back page states "Florence Skinner, Leaves Green, Beckenham, Kent". My father always said his mother's maiden name was Skinner. I'm totally confused!

The E in Florence E stands for Emily.
Hope this is of some help.

Wrong one then Marilyn, thanks for sorting that one out.

Sillwood is what we need.

If Patricia would only come back with his first name and when the eldest child was born we may have more chance here.

A bit of a late registration for a November 1880 birth but in the right place ?

Formerly is definately maiden name,if it were a previous marriage it would normally say Late Webb formerly/previously Skinner??

Are you 100% sure you have the correct childrens certs?

When did Sillwood and Florence marry and what is Mr Sillwoods first name please?

If you give a little more info like where in the country all this is we may be able to help a little more.

I can find no Skinner/Sillwood or Webb/Sillwood marriage at the moment,do you have the cert?

Her death?
What does the E stand for please?

Formerly means maiden name.

Patricia

Patricia Report 8 Jul 2010 11:27

Have been searching for ages for Florence Skinner. Have childrens' birth certificates and mother listed as 'Florence Sillwood formerly Webb'. Does the formerly refer to a previous marriage rather than maiden name as it has always been understood her maiden name was Skinner and I have found her in Census records as Florence Skinner and in a family bible. I can find no birth record although I know her birth was 26 November 1880 and have a copy of the death certificate in 1948. Any suggestions please? Thanks, Patricia.
