This is driving me nuts I'm looking for my gg grans marraige cert but can't seem to find it anywhere so would be grateful if someone could have alook for me. Her name is Jane Holland abt 1836 married Richard Geen abt 1836 both born Devon area. Richard Geen died about 1874 shortly after returning to the UK I had been trying to find their daughters birth cert but as she was born some where in the USA thought it may be better to look for her parents. Not sure when they married but daughter Lily was born 1865 USA and have her marraige and death cert.

Maybe you should add to your heading that US is a possibility?


where have you looked for the marriage.

If they were born before July 1 1837, there will be no birth certificate to find as registration only began on that date.


That means you will have to look for Parish Records.

I thought that too so had a look on find my past marriges abroad - but there was nothing their either. I think I may have found Richard Geens Baptism 16 March 1837 Devon. Also checked latter day saints that is where I found the baptism. Not sure where else to look for marriages possible abroad? Parish Records are they available on line?

Some parish records are ......... try googling for Online Parish Clerks.

Look at International Genealogical Records on family search ...... just be sure that the record is EXTRACTED, that is taken from the actual record.

Treat a SUBMITTED record with caution ... those have been sent in by church members and sometimes have been pulled out of thin air!! Make a note of such records, but don't include on your tree until you can confirm the information.

so did Jane Holland emigrate separately then???

This is a def possibility for emigration. Why I wanted the marraige cert for the parents was that there is in 1841 two families with sons Richard of similar age only difference really is that the mothers are Sarah and Mary as you have listed above. Where did you find the the emigration record? I had mainly searched for a record about the time of Jane and Richards marraige thinking they had gone shortly before.

Yes I believe they came back before 1873 as Annie was born here - unable to find her birth though. Lily married in Devon in 1884 - they then start appearing on the census in 1891. Do you think if I get the death certs of Jane and Richard it would give any information? Strange though no sign of them as a family in the USA. It does look like Jane must of emigrated and they met and married in the US.
