Sorry Jacky your message was a little difficult to read so can I put down what I believe we are looking for first? (hope you don't mind):

From the cert you have:

William May married Mary Barrett in Woodhouse, Leeds Yorkshire in 1849.

Both were over 21 so both born before c1828.

William's father was John May - a Stone Mason.

You have found the info on Mary + family but want to find William + father John - Stone Mason on 1841 census.

Is this correct?

Sorry Jacky - Ancestry site is still down for me - it won't let me view any images.

I will look again for you later (if it let's me in).

There are 2 William & Mary May's on the 1851 census which could fit . As these were your gt x3 grand parents and I assume you have worked your way back to them.
Can you tell us what children they should have so that we can be sure to trace the correct family

Although he isn't perhaps listed as deceased on the marriage certificate there is always the possibility that father John was dead when son William married.

The Yorkshire section of the FFHS has several John Mays in the burial index around then.

Sorry, Jacky.
Some where alone the line I must have got lost.
I followed Arthur to Joseph.
Then followed Joseph back th 1871 with his grandmother Ann Sigston but could not connect him to a William

In 1851 census there is a Joseph b. 1850 but in Barnsley, with parents John & Ann

AND a Joseph born in Leeds, but in 1847, with grandparents, William & Ellen Grunwell.

???? where did I go wrong???

Julcoe

Julcoe Report 19 Apr 2008 14:43

I assume that you have Joseph's marriage certificate,
and that how you know that he married Ann Gray and not Ann Eliza Beaumont.

Is this where you got the info that his father was 'William' ?

England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index: 1837-1983 about Joseph May

Year of Registration: 1873

Back up a minute..

Jacky you said you have Joseph's marriage certificate, and that is how you know his father was William. Is that correct?

Dea..
You said that Joseph's mother Mary, married Charles Calverley in 1864, correct ?

So, can we find Mary May in 1861 census?
Is she widowed or with William.?

Dea

Dea Report 19 Apr 2008 15:01
