They have changed the search on FMP Ginns and I can no longer do a street search but I have done this in the past with no result. I seen to remember there were a lot of 'lodgers' so they could just have stayed there for a short time before they married.

Am going to look for Flip's Alex and Margaret...........

Have you done an address search for the 1871 census?

I don't have FMP and it's a ball ache doing it on Ancestry

This Margaret had a brother John, a bricklayer - if she lied about her age she may had also lied about her father??......... clutching at straws really :-S

Dea

Dea Report 6 Apr 2014 12:52

Thanks Flip,

Margaret's father was John but I will look further into that one just in case.

Have to go cook lunch now or hubby will explode.

Will be back later.

Thanks to all who are trying to help.

Going back to the mother's marriage to Peter Statham in 1864 - they both gave the address of Temperance Street, but weren't there on 1861/1871 census - I can't find Peter in 1861. He'd been married 16/2/1839 to Charlotte Rogerson, then 4/8/1844 to Ann Booth.

However, the point is there is an Alex mcLoughlin (1821) with daughter Margaret living at 18 Temperance St in 1871, although she is a bit old at 22. Just wondered if there could be some connection.

Thanks Mary - that is a copy of 'my' cert. The person originally had the wrong wife for Mark so I sent a copy through to him as proof.

Both Margaret and Jane would have been very young at the time of Thomas's birth.

Mary

Mary Report 6 Apr 2014 11:29

Witness'e to Margaret and Mark were George and Emma Fenton.
There is a copy on a Ancestry tree.

If Margaret was born 1853 she would have only been 15 when Thomas Fenton was born in Manchester.

No help there then.

Who were the witnesses on Margaret and Mark' marriage cert?

Dea

Dea Report 6 Apr 2014 11:02

Thanks Flip - You are probably right :-(

It was worth a try though Ginns . This has puzzled me for many years now and I keep going back to it but I don't think I am ever going to sort it out :-(

I will keep looking............

Thanks to everyone for your help. <3

Looks unlikely Dea. I wonder if Mark/Jane never married because he was not free to marry?

He marries Margaret in January, but by the time of the census was living with his mother - maybe Margaret just up and left, and ended up living with someone else as well - just a thought.

Gee

Gee Report 6 Apr 2014 10:52

Looks like we can forget about that girls then, if she was born a Fenton
