I think that is her maiden name. Otherwise it would say something like Emily Hatcher, formerly Young, formerly Smith or similar with the three surnames.

Emily Eliza Young's parents were:
John Young b-1830ish Essex and Eliza Young b-1835ish Essex do not have a maiden name as yet or a marriage for them, but i dont think this line of the family is tracing an Indian lady.

OR

As Emily Young was married to George Samuel Hatcher, could it of been George's mother: Matilda Chandler b-1826 Newington Surrey, could she be the Indian lady?

Still no sign of the Indian connection yet!

Samantha

Samantha Report 17 Aug 2008 21:29

I cant seem to find a thing to suggest there is but some other member's of the family have mentioned it in the past so there must be some truth in it.
Oh will i ever get to the bottom of this?

Samantha

Samantha Report 20 Aug 2008 20:39

I have made contact with some other members who also have Matilda Chandler in their trees that maybe able to help with information, so just need to wait for a reply (fingers crossed)
It would be so good to get to the bottom of this, im sure my nan knows something behind all this but she refuses to talk.
Such a shame as this could make things a lot easier

Samantha.
Could the Indian lady have been born in India but with English parents. The reason Im saying this is because I had a friend who was born in India but his parents were English. His mother was a cockney. I had met her.

However this friend to look at was olive skinned and spoke with an accent like an indian. He said it was due to being cared for by Indian servants. For all the world you would think he was Indian if you didnt know the truth

Margaret
You are probably right and i would agree with you and think this could be the case, but at this moment in time i can not find a thing and very much on the verge of giving up (which is not me)

Samantha

Samantha Report 25 Aug 2008 14:46

I have been asking family if they know of anything that may help and one of my dad's cousins says that her father always said it was great grandfather that married an Indian lady so this may help a bit, this would make it as being John Thomas Hatcher who married Matilda Chandler who was born Newington surrey and i have just had a message from another member with this person also in their tree and Matilda's parents were also born Newington surrey
