To all you researchers who are feeling discouraged because of some ungrateful ttf posts. please please don't give up. For every one of the ingrates there must be hundreds of us who are so grateful to you for all the unstinting help you have given us, giving so freely of your time to try & save ours. I know that I am, you've helped me on the road to finding ancestors when I'd drawn a blank - so hold your heads up high & feel sorry for those who are petty minded

Some people
come into our lives
and quickly go..

Some people
become friends
and stay awhile...

leaving beautiful
footprints on our
hearts...

and we are
never quite the same
because we have
made a good
friend!!

Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow a mystery.
Today is a gift.
That's why it's called the present!

I think this is special...live and savour every
moment... This is not a dress rehearsal!

Right Now -
-somebody is thinking of you.
-somebody is caring about you.
-somebody misses you
-somebody wants to talk to you.
-somebody wants to be with you.
-somebody hopes you aren't in trouble.
-somebody is thankful for the support you have provided.
-somebody wants to hold your hand.
-somebody hopes everything turns out all right.
-somebody wants you to be happy.
-somebody wants you to find him/her.
-somebody is celebrating your successes.
-somebody wants to give you a gift.
-somebody thinks that you ARE a gift.
-somebody loves you.
-somebody admires your strength.
-somebody is thinking of you and smiling.
-somebody wants to be your shoulder to cry on.

Never take away anyone's hope. That may be all they have.

Hi,
The problem with postings is that sometimes the intended meaning of what you put down in writing can be misunderstood. This has happened to me several times and left me quite frustrated when a disagreement breaks out because of a misunderstanding.
Being anonymous, also allow some to say what they would never dare say if identities were known but unfortunately this is one of the problems with any notice board.

I now reply only when I want to. Offer help as and when I can and never worry about the lack of response to any help I may give.

The main reason for joining GR is to further my family tree. If I can help others as I needed help when I first joined, then I am happy to do so. No one can change that.

LfW - you belie your name. That is the 2nd poem (that I have seen anyway) which is worth copying and passing on. Thank you.

I want to add my little bit to this thread. I too have been helped by you Julie and many many other kind people on the boards.
When I joined GR 6 months ago on the suggestion from a friend I had absolutely no idea what was ahead for me. It took me several weeks to even see these boards and discover what assistance I could have. By learning from replies to my questions and reading other threads for hints, I am slowly - ever so slowly - learning how to research my families and am having some great success.
I am so grateful to everyone, so please Julie and others, don't give up. Take a breather if you need it, get fresh air and 'smell the roses', but PLEASE don't give it up.
A BIG thank you to you all
Regards from Carole

God's Boxes

I have in my hands two boxes which God gave me to hold.
He said, 'Put all your sorrows in the black box and all your joys in the gold.'
I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored,
But though the gold became heavier each day,
The black was as light as before.
With curiosity, I opened the black,
I wanted to find out why,
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole,
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.
I showed the hole to God, and mused,
'I wonder where my sorrows could be!'
He smiled a gentle smile and said,
'My child, they're all here with me..'
I asked God, why He gave me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?
'My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings & the black is for you to let go.'
We should consider all of our friends a blessing.
Send this to a friend today just to let them know you are thinking of them and that they are a joy in your life.

A ball is a circle, no beginning, no end.
It keeps us together like our Circle of Friends.
But the treasure inside for you to see,
Is the treasure of friendship you've granted to me.
Today I pass the friendship ball to you.
Pass it on to someone who is a friend to you...

Maureen's right

....... it has to be long enough for people to notice that no-one is giving any help

........... and it has to unanimous!

No helpers at all doing any work

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 7 Oct 2008 23:20

and I have almost reached the end of my tether and patience after reading some of the posts that appeared late last week and over the weekend

postings such as "don't boss us about", "don't order us around", "don't give us a hard time about our spelling" ..... all on tips threads.

I do love the hunting for ancestors, especially when it isn't easy to find, and may even need lateral thinking, and I enjoy that buzz" when I have success

.... but I really don't need the hassle!

know exactly how you feel Julie - I came in for an enormous amount of flak yesterday which was more than a little upsetting - but as has been said, that was just one person out of very many who really appreciate some help, so I'm hanging in here but it would only take another day like yesterday and I would have to have a rethink!!!
