David Report 24 Oct 2008 14:38

Janice, Ellen Rose Cook was the first born as far as I know. There may have been miscarriages but there was never a James Cook. All births of aunts and uncles are in the family bible. The first son was called Thomas John William Cook (1928-1929). By the way, how did you know my grans maiden name was Hunt?
As for my granddads D.O.B., my dad and his eldest brother were both aware of it being the 16th March 1898. The baptism record just confirmed it.
So my late gran was born Ellen Hunt on 27/02/1898, second daughter to Charles and Harriett in Worcester. Moved to Birmingham around 1899.

Hi David just looked up the birth index for Ellen Rose and it gave mothers maiden name. Have since seen the marriage index for
Name: James Cook /May Hunt
Year of Registration: 1917
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
Spouse's Surname: Hunt
District: Birmingham (1837-1924)
County: Warwickshire
Volume: 6d
Page: 313

so think that must be their child.
Don't suppose they could be related to your Cook/Hunt?

Do you know if your grandfather was in WW1 to look for his army records

David Report 25 Oct 2008 19:43

On the baptism record, Thomas Cook Snr is listed as being a tube drawer (extruding pipes I think).
The only Hunts I know of are:
Alice Hunt (married Horace Field) 1896 - 1968
Ellen Hunt (my gran) 1898 - 1972
Rose Harriet Hunt (1900 - 1901)
William Henry Hunt (1906 - 1980)

Of these, only Ellen and William have living descendants. Alice's children never married. Her last remaining son died last year.

Gt Grandparents Charles and Harriett Hunt are proving a puzzle too - I cannot find a marriage for them. Harriett died in November 1919 aged 58. Charles died in January 1942. Both were buried in common graves at Witton. Using their ages from death certificate and the 1901 census, Harriett was born in 1860/61 and Charles in 1864/65. The problem is that there are no Harriett Taylors in Worcestershire and 2 Charles Hunts in Birmingham.

Thomas and George look like it says wid.

George looks something like Tester tube maker
Thomas looks like Groom.
Don't know who Thomas 4 belongs to.
Will look on 1891 census to see if Thomas was a groom then.

not having any luck finding Thomas above in 1891?

David

David Report 26 Oct 2008 12:12

Well they lived at 42 Cromwell Street on the baptism record - they are not there in 1901 however. I've found 4 Thomas Cooks living in Aston Manor on the 1901 census and none are him. Electoral lists in that period are scarce too. The 1911 census may hold the answer - I'll be looking to see where the Hunts were living too as I have a huge gap between 1906 and 1919. They were living in Oxygen Street for a number of years.

Well, they ended up in the Newtown area in the 20's. I've checked the 1901 census on Ancestry.co.uk at the library and no luck.
