Jane Harbottle had John George Harbottle the same month she married James.! bit of a scandel. The information someone has just gave me on here says that Jane and Thomas had 5 years apart that means that she would have been 15 when she had William. Can anyone find out if Jane Aynsley was born in 1816

MargaretM Report 29 Oct 2008 17:47

Evidently Jane had a son before she married James:
1891 census
Jordison's Buildings, Green Lane, Harton, Durham
James Smailes, head, 50, general labourer, born Mitford
Jane, wife, 40, born Bedlington
Jno. Geo. Harbottle, son, 17, born Durham, Boldon
Eleanor Smaile, dau, 10 months, born Durham, Haitor?

And next door:
Ralph Harbottle, head, 66, general labourer, born Northumberland
Eleanor, wife, 67, born Newburn
Jane A., grandau, 17, born Durham, Claydon?

I am butting out of this now as I think there are people on here with more experience than me and I don't want to "cloud the issue!"

Good luck

Lania, I think you're going about this the wrong way. It's much better to work backwards through the censuses, starting with the person who you know definitely is yours.
Are you definitely descended from this William Swailes? How? Through which child?

Ericthered

Ericthered Report 29 Oct 2008 17:22

How did you arrive at William?

Which of his children is your direct ancestor?

Perhaps we can help you work backwards.....rather than forwards?

PaulaW

PaulaW Report 29 Oct 2008 17:21

I have posted above Thomas and Jane marriage and also the birth of Thomas Jnr. These are from familysearch and are submitted records so would need to be verified.
