As Rememberence Day is fast approaching I thought it might be fitting if we dedicated a thread to relations and friends no longer with us.

They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,

My two great Uncles killed in WW1

Frank Spencer aged 23 years
his brother
Ellis Spencer killed aged 32 years

My Great grandfather's cousin ARNOLD WINSON 03/08/1883-27/03/1917 from Bebington, Wirral. His ship "Thracia" was torpedoed.

My great uncle Patrick Farnan died in france 1917 with the royal scots regiment 2nd battalion. Arras military cemetry. jean

I found this, probably puts the whole Rememberance thing into context


Pte Turner, 97th Brigade Machine Gun Company, reflects:
One universal question, which I have never seen answered: two or three million pounds a day for the 1914-18 war, yet no monies were forthcoming to put industry on its feet on our return from that war. Many's the time I've gone to bed, after a day of 'tramp, tramp' looking for work, on a cup of cocoa and a pennyworth of chips between us; I would lay puzzling why, why, after all we had gone through in the service of our country, we have to suffer such poverty, willing to work at anything but no work to be had. I only had two Christmases at work between 1919 and 1939.

To an unknown relation - I don't know where he fits on my tree yet but found a photograph of his grave in my late aunt's treasured mementoes tin.

We don't even know where this grave is but I will be remembering him this year along with all the other brave men, women and civilians past and present who have lost their lives in conflict.

My dad's uncle Bob we were told he was "hacked to death" well what a story to be brought up on! but poor Bob his mother never believed he had been killed and spent the rest of her life waiting for him to come home!
My family have always laid poppies for Bob

In Memory of my Grandfather.
Coporal Stephen William Cannon Died at the Royal Harbert Hospital on 11-10-1918. His Grave is at Greenwich Cemetery.
And Memory to Arthur William Vale Gosford death 10-4-1900. Arthur died in a boating accident off Brighton in June 1900 he was in the Navy.
Buried in a Mass Grave in Brighton.
