I've not bought many certificates yet, but where I don't have them my tree is marked as 'Possibility' and then a note reminding me to get them. Nothing is sure until it's proved so by seeing it in writing.

and several of us got told off the other week by someone for telling him to get certificates!

He just knew he didn't need them!


He even put up a thread about it.

I followed the wrong line once all cos i diddnt buy ONE cert!

The Mothers maiden name was.....GODDARD (or as i thought!)......it turned out to be GODHARD!

Never again!.....

I have just tried to help 2 people (on another site) searching for various records.

Both of them are aware of a marriage, for which an index listing is available.

Both of them need the groom's father's name to eliminate a possible duplicate but NEITHER of them has bought the certificate to find out the father's name or approximate age at marriage !!!!

What do they think I am....psychic ??? Yes, if you buy lots of certificates it mounts up BUT only as much as other hobbies cost !!!
