could someone please tell me where to find out if my ancestors emigrated to u.s.a or australia , i cant find them anywhere after 1871. thanks jean

Have you tried the passenger lists on FindMyPast? If you post their names will have a look for you.

EDIT the lists are only from 1890 to 1960.

keith, i have looked on scotlands people for their marraige's but found nothing , don't know where else to go with this one, couldn't find deaths for them either, regards jean

It looks like Mary may have married "Gavine"

Joan, yes their parents were born in ireland but they were born in lanarkshire, the latest i have them is 1871 census living in dundee, thanks jean

I can't access the actual record but the title page states that she is a boarder but not record whether she was married or not.

Jean, I wouldn't worry so much about the place of birth, either the 1861 or 1871 census could be not accurate (depends upon who gave the informaton to the census taker at the time). Many times individuals did not understand the question or it was just easier to say the whole family was born in Ireland. Unfortunately, we cannot assume what took place so many years ago. I have found so many discrepancies on my ancestors in England, it isn't funny.

Sorry joan i'm confusing you now, maybe mary was not a daughter but a boarder,i will have to go back to scotlands people and take another look with my magnifying glass. but on the census you showed me it says that ann was born in ireland. jean
