Thanks very much for the info......whether this is my Ernest or not I really haven't a clue :-((

I know he came into the UK in 1896 as an 8 month old baby and was still here in 1901.....after that I've no idea what happened to him. He may well have gone to Canada?

Not sure if this is your Ernest or not but there is only one Ernest Hutchinson listed in the Social Security Death Index with a birth year of 1895. At the time Social Security was applied for he was in Ohio. (People at that time applied for their Social Security numbers when they went to work. Now adays Social Security numbers are issued at birth.)

Born September 29, 1895
Death: November, 1979
Last known residence: Canada

You can write the Social Security Death Index for more information. There is a section on the site below that describes what Social Security is and where to write:

You can also view the information I sent by inputting Ernest's name and year of birth.

I've had a lot of success, too using the Family Search site....new info being posted all the time as volunteers transcribe the documents. On the home page under WHAT'S NEW, click on SEE NEW PROTYPE FOR SEARCHING MILLIONS ON NEW RECORDS.

Hi All

Is there anyone in Philadelphia, or anyone who can do a lookup in Philadelphia, for me please?

Or if not is there anyone who can give me some guidance on how to find a birth there please?

I'm really desperate to find the birth of Ernest Hutchinson born May or June 1895. It's possible the birth could be registered in his mmn (which I don't know!!) but I'm sure it will have Thomas Hutchinson, occ. Boot/shoe maker named as his father.
