Sorry, Pamela, it was the 1851 census. I thought you had it, I was just confirming the address. here it is:
1851 census
30 Carlton Row. Brighton, Sussex
Jane Pollard, head, unmarried, 27, ironer, born Sussex, Cuckfold
Ruth, dau, 2, born Brighton
Henrietta, dau, 5 months, born Middlesex, London

At same address:
Sarah Humphrey, head, married, 31, laundress, born Brighton
Sarah Jane, dau, 8, born Brighton

Hi Margaret, When did Jane and her daughters live at Carlton Row?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 26 Nov 2008 12:50

The Francis Elliott who's living with Ruth Pollard is a broom maker.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 26 Nov 2008 12:47

30 Carlton Row, Brighton is where Jane Pollard, unmarried, 27, is living with her daughters Ruth, 2, and Henrietta, 5 months. Jane was born Cuckfold, Ruth, Brighton and Henrietta, London.

At the same address is Sarah Humphrey, 31, married and daughter Sarah Jane, 8.

Hi Eric,
I now have the cert. James Lunn, widower marr. Jane Elliott Pollard, spinster July 19, 1851. Both addresses are given as 30 Carlton Row Brighton, both of full age (so thta's no help).

Father of James is John Lunn, a farmer and Jane's father is Francis Pollard, a smith. Married at St Nicholas Church.

Witnesses were William Shelley and Eleanor Marney/Marnly Elliott.

I wonder if the Francis Pollard is the Francis Elliott that I found on 1851 census with Ruth Pollard??

Would you mind looking at this?
Pamela

The names Pollard and Elliott seem intertwined

Have you considered obtaining the marriage cert?

Pamela

Pamela Report 25 Nov 2008 15:37

nudge

Pamela

Pamela Report 21 Nov 2008 19:34

Thanks Eric, I have found Ruth Ann Elliott Pollard - mother Jane Elliott Pollard on IGI christened Dec 1850; also Henrietta Pollard - mother Jane Elliott Pollard, also christened Dec 1850.

On 1841 census I have found Ruth Elliott 54 (with Francis Elliott) and a daughter Ruth age12 at Cuckfield Sussex

What do you think are the chances of this being the family?

I also found on IGI another Jane Pollard christened July 1841. Again it would have to be a late christen ing.

This is from the IGI.............BUT..........either this isn't the same Jane, or she was not a baby when she was christened

JANE ELLIOTT POLLARD

Ericthered Report 21 Nov 2008 10:17

Can't seem to find James and Jane on 1861 census............perhaps they are on one of the 'missing' pieces.

I think you are going to need to obtain the marriage cert..........until you find out some age info, any searches will be guesswork. The marriage cert will also tell you his occupation, his father's name, and father's occupation, thus making census searches more likely to produce the correct result,

Pamela

Closing down now - will look tomorrow.

Pamela

Pamela Report 20 Nov 2008 23:27

Sorry Margaret, Eric just put me right about going to reply, and not just clicking on your name.

I'm sure the marriage you suggest is correct but I cannot find him further back ie census dob etc

Pamela

Pamela Report 20 Nov 2008 23:24

Thanks Saul, I would like to know when james was born, when he died and if he can be found on census returns

Pamela

Pamela Report 20 Nov 2008 23:22

Thanks Eric for putting me straight. I was talking about James Lunn of Brighton

Thanks too for responding so fast - the last time I made a request I hadn't realised that there are others as crazy about this subject as me; and on their computers so late!!
