Seems to me that so many people are posting requests and then never ever return to the thread to see what has been found - if this is because you cannot find it again, just go into the yellow box on the left of this page and click on My Threads - it;s a bit disheartening to find information that someone is looking for - desperately in some cases it seems - and then you notice that they haven't gone back to see what has been found.

that's very sweet of you Gemma - I an't wonderful by any means - just nosy and bored!!!! I think they can't find it either so hope they read this, but they probably won't - I'm a cynic!!! What about your Sarah Wilcox then - where did she come from and when?

I t's not always easy to find a post again.
Other forum sites email you when there's been a reply with a link back to the post (very helpful).
Im still searching for joseph and gladys smith beginning to think there was something naughty going on

I agree with you. All the work you put in to find details for us is great. Some of us are not able to find our threads again as we are getting a bit older. I didn't know you could go to the yellow bit on the left to find your threads. I too always reply to those who have looked up for me as it is so special to me to find where I came from as I didn't know anything about my fathers side of the family. Thanks to everyone who helps in our search.

how come you lost Joseph and Gladys then?

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 30 Nov 2008 23:39

of course you must nudge your threads up - no one will mind - it's much better than starting a new one - now come on - start nudging - one, two, three - nudge!!!!

I left information on a thread a few days ago ad noticed that the person hadn't been back. I sent a personal mail and told them how to get back to the thread.

The reply I received was:

'Thank you very much...I have been with GR for three years and didn't know you could do that'.

I suppose when you know how to do something it's easy to forget that others don't

I have this evening sent a pm to a member who has about six posts and only been back to one of them and I am sure it is because she has no idea how to find them again - waiting to see if she responds

another thing - if I find something really good, I sometimes can't wait for them to come back so pm them to tell them it's there - big kid at heart see!!!

Now you are all fast asleep, I can offer my 2 cents worth... :-)

Have found by "bookmarking" my threads, I have ready access and continually check the last response dates just in case someone has added a reply.
Works for me.

to find the Joseph and Gladys thread we would really need the surname to go with it

Someone posted a heartfelt plea to find their Dad.

I found him on a ship and got his last known address.

They never came back. I sent the info. in a PM a couple of days later and heard nothing..

That said... nearly everyone says thanks

that is really awful Linda - fancy not coming back after all your hard work - perhaps they were so overwhelmed!!!

Now I have a problem - is Eric Frederic or Frederic Eric? and how does he know their name is Smith? anyone know where Miss Marple is?

Frederic (Eric)

Frederic (Eric) Report 1 Dec 2008 09:37

G'day again and very funny Ann ... Frederic is Eric and Eric is Frederic. Real name is Frederic (family name handed down and only get called that when I have been "really bad") Eric is what everyone else knows me as.
This poor guy has 2 trees running - one for direct family and the other for the adoptive family.

It's the only way you can do it.... and I couldn't use the same name on both trees.

I did a search and found the Joseph and Gladys thread and noted it was Smith - I also think it is mentioned in one of the replies to this thread...

I've been eating my greens (and also wearing my glasses)

Hi, Its like this ,you post a thread sit and wait, noone answers so you go to the loo ,come back wait a bit,go and get lunch, come back, then see an answer,so write back ,nothing, you start to think your thread must be uninteresting and back away.I posted one on Saturday and this happened but I did answer twice and am still waiting.....shall I nudge or what?
