Nicola,
The Soloman born in 1912 is in deed your Nana's brother, but the other
Soloman born in 1887 is possibly your Nana's FATHER, (see marriage above).

I'll look in tomorrow!

Catherine Report 9 Dec 2008 22:00

All of the following are births for Camm, between 1907 and 1911 in Wolstanton, so possible siblings:-

Births Mar 1907 (>99%)
CAMM Dennis Wolstanton 6b 106
99%)
CAMM Henry Sutcliffe Wolstanton 6b 112
Births Mar 1909 (>99%)
CAMM Irene Wolstanton 6b 123
CAMM Reginald George Wolstanton 6b 112
Births Sep 1910 (94%)
CAMM Beatrice A Wolstanton 6b 106
Births Jun 1911 (>99%)
Camm Doris Wolstanton 6b 112

The 1907 record for Henry Sutcliffe seems more than likely and would more or less confirm the 1901 census and marriage info., but you still need to buy those certs. to be sure.

I found my nanas brother Solomon - he was born on Dec ??, 1912. I think the information you gave above about the 14 yr old born in 1887 was another one.

I'm looking for as many siblings as I can now for my nana on the Camm side. Having her mothers maiden name of Forrest is really helping!

My grandad and the Turner side of the family will prob only come about when I get his certificates I presume! Bit lost without any maiden names!

Nicola

Catherine

Catherine Report 9 Dec 2008 21:51

It would seem that her parents married in 1907, so there are probably more births between this date and 1912, when the maiden name search is possible.

I have to sign off now, but will look in again tomorrow!
Regards
Catherine

Yeh I have just found them too!

My dad has no recollection of them at all however his memory of names is shocking!

Thanks for all your help. It's been great! I'm a little bit confused that my mum told me that my nana was one of 13 however, I can only find 8 siblings from her mother!

The death certificate for your Grandad won't give his parents names the only cert. that will give that info is his birth cert.
His marriage cert., however will give his fathers name and profession, which is a good start.

Catherine

Catherine Report 9 Dec 2008 21:42

This would seem to be the marriage for Henry to Caroline:-

Marriages Dec 1873 (>99%)
<<<<BUCKLEY Caroline Wolstanton 6b 223
BUCKLEY Thomas Wolstanton 6b 223
<<<<CAMM Henry Sutcliffe Wolstanton 6b 223
Hargreaves Hannah Wolstanton 6b 223

Catherine

Catherine Report 9 Dec 2008 21:37

Forgot to look for Ronald Camm your Nanas brother, but here he is, obviously didn't go far enough:-

Births Mar 1931 (96%)
Camm Ronald (Forrest) Stoke T. 6b 162

which seem to confirm the Forrest link.

Catherine

Catherine Report 9 Dec 2008 21:30

This is the only Soloman Camm I could find anywhere in England in the 1901 census:-

Name: Soloman Camm
Age: 14
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1887
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Henry T
Mother's Name: Caroline
Gender: Male
Where born: Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, England

Civil Parish: Chell
Ecclesiastical parish: Newchapel
Town: Brindley Ford
County/Island: Staffordshire
Country: England

Street address:
Occupation: Horse Driver in Coal Pit

Registration district: Wolstanton
Sub registration district: Tunstall
ED, institution, or vessel: 9
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 106
Household Members:
Name Age
Amy Camm 18 born: Brindley Ford, Staffordshire
Arthur Camm 21 born: Brindley Ford, Staffordshire
Caroline Camm 46 born: Tunstall, Staffordshire
Edgar Camm 12 born: Oxford Chell, Staffordshire
Hardie Camm 8 born: Brindley Ford, Staffordshire
Henry T Camm 48 born: Congleton, Cheshire (prob.Henry S.)
(occupation: Iron Moulder)
James H Camm 27 born: Brindley Ford, Staffordshire
Martha Camm 16 born: Newmills, Staffordshire
Robert Camm 6 born: Brindley Ford, Staffordshire
Soloman Camm 14

If he married in 1907 that would make his age 20yrs.

You need of course Ethel's birth cert. to confirm all of this, but it does seem to fit together nicely.

Catherine

Catherine Report 9 Dec 2008 21:18

This is interesting!
After the birth of Ethel, the family moved to Stoke.
Here are another two births that fit this couple:-

Births Dec 1922 (99%)
Camm Joseph R (Forrest) Stoke T. 6b 159
Births Jun 1927 (97%)
Camm Eric (Forrest) Stoke T. 6b 186

there could of course be more after this date that have not been transcribed yet.

Catherine

Catherine Report 9 Dec 2008 21:15

I searched for a marriage for male Camm to female Forrest, in Staffordshire and found this which seems to fit as the name of the husband is the same as that of one of the children (Soloman):-

Marriages Mar 1907 (>99%)
Barlow James Leek 6b 406
BRIDGETT Florence Leek 6b 406
<<<CAMM Solomon Leek 6b 406
<<<FORREST Jane Elizabeth Leek 6b 406
Higginson George Henry Leek 6b 406

Catherine

Catherine Report 9 Dec 2008 21:11

You can find siblings on freebmd.org when you have the mothers maiden name, but unfortunately this research is only available after 1911 and up to the date that the records have been transcribed which varies according to the district, but which is usually about 1930. (if I remember correctly)

If the list for Camm was the correct one, then this would be the record for you Nana:-

Births Dec 1920 (>99%)
Camm Ethel Forrest Wolstanton 6b 223

You now need to buy the birth certificate. This will give you her fathers name and her mothers name and maiden name. You can then find a marriage for them, after which you can buy the certificate, which in turn will give you their ages, so you can find their date of birth and also their fathers names and professions which will help you find them in the census records.

Then it gets really interesting!!!

Nicola

Nicola Report 9 Dec 2008 20:50

How do I find his father's name and his mother's first name?

This is getting much more interesting now!

And also, how do i find the rest of the names for my nana's siblings and my grandads siblings?

Nicola Report 9 Dec 2008 20:48

Hi,

I'v been talking to my mum and she says that my nana was one of 13 children. The list with norah, janet, soloman and dennis on was right however, my dad doesn't recall anyone called Dennis. My mum sems to think that a lot of my nanas siblings died very young.

As for my grandad, that death certificate was exactly right. Does it have his parents names on?

Nicola x

Catherine

Catherine Report 9 Dec 2008 20:40

This would be your Grandad's death record:-

Albert Turner 31 Mar 1924 Feb 1989 64 Stoke On Trent Staffordshire

so Stoke is looking good!

Of the two Albert Turners that were born in Stoke, one has a middle name begging with J. but the death record above does not show this middle name, so could be it is the other one (mothers maiden name Smith)

All speculation for the moment of course, you really need to find something solid.

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 9 Dec 2008 20:30

The marriage can be found on Ancestry or Findmypast but they are subscription sites.

Do you have a rough idea of when they married or when their first child was born?

I have to go out now but will check back later to see if anything has been found.

Nicola Report 9 Dec 2008 20:28

I mentioned above, not sure if yu saw it, my dad recalls an aunt Eliza or Elizabeth. He says his dad was one of many however his aunt Eliza is the only one he remembers.

I'm really impressed to how much you have found though! Thank you

Catherine

Catherine Report 9 Dec 2008 20:25

Your Grandad was born 31st March, so his birth would have been registered in the June quarter of 1924. The following are all births for Albert Turner, 1924 anywhere:-

Births Jun 1924 (>99%)
Turner Albert (Lawrence) Barton I 8c 942
Turner Albert (Griffin) Walsall 6b 1252
Turner Albert (Smith) Stoke T 6b 173
Turner Albert D (Booth) Worksop 7b 87
Turner Albert E (Criddle) Aston 6d 924
Turner Albert H (Scurr) W.Ham 4a 362
Turner Albert J (Taylor) Stoke T 6b 121

So any of these could be him!
If you have the name of some of his siblings I could check for their births with the above to try and find a match!

Nicola

Nicola Report 9 Dec 2008 20:23

Where would I find that?

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 9 Dec 2008 20:20

You really need to find the marriage of Albert and Ethel to find out Albert's father's name.
