Thanks guys, will order marriage cert. I have Eleanor's birth cert and mothers maiden name was definitely Johnson. Does this mean then that the children were born before John and Sarah were married?

The John Taylor/Sarah Elizabeth Johnson marriage wasn't until 1890. Do you have the birth certificate of any of the children giving mother's maiden name?

All born South Shields.

The marriage cert would give his father's name and occupation - which would help in tracking them down in the censuses.

It should be on FreeBMD.

I'm seeking help in finding info about my great great grandfather John Taylor and his parents. He was born 1869 in Newcastle and married a Sarah Johnson. They then had my great grandmother Eleanor b1899 as well as Elizabeth, Martha, Johanna, Mary and Emily.

I am having trouble gettin any further back than John but there is a possibility his father was also John Taylor and possibly born in Scotland?

I'm so stuck on this one! Can anyone help or does anyone have any connections? I'm goin up North soon so i want to tie as many loose ends before i visit the records office.
Thanks, Jenny
