you might find this site worth a look
http://www.1851-unfilmed.org.uk
this has a name search plus an image lookup (for a small fee)

eg

WHITWORTH Sarah Chorlton RD, Chorlton-on-Medlock 3C/192/1
WHITWORTH Jane Chorlton RD, Chorlton-on-Medlock 3C/192/2
WHITWORTH Alfred Chorlton RD, Chorlton-on-Medlock 3C/192/3
WHITWORTH Robert Chorlton RD, Chorlton-on-Medlock 3C/192/4

from the index numbers this could be Robert with mother Sarah and siblings

edit - forget the above comment - Robert would have been married by 1851 but it is worth a look and note for future reference

Now,here is the strange bit!!!!!!!!!!
Samual married twice
firstly to Mary Jones (details from another Genes member)
they say the marriage took place in 1818 but as yet i cant seem to pin down any record of this!!!
But i have found a marriage for a couple ,same names,married 1801!!!!!!!
Although all my census records confirm their ages, making them too young to be the couple i've found on familysearch.org!!!!!!!
2nd spouse
Elizabeth Walker
married 1855
record on Ancestry

The elusive ROBERT JONES WHITWORTH b1818 AUL
Try as i might, cant find any records on either familysearch or Ancestry for his birth!!!!!!!!!!!!
1861 census

1st marriage
Ann Parker in 1842 AUL
2nd marriage

Died a/m/j 1868 aged 51 AUL
So there we have it !!!!!
a few gaps & niggles
if anyone out there would mind casting their eye over this for me i'd be most grateful,as i said a few gaps but the real niggle is sam & mary's marriage.thanks guys, kind regards Lisaxxx

Hi Ann,yes thats it,im really confused now,as i said above, all census records show approx same ages of sam,so 1801 as a marriage date is way too early, but i cant find another.

Lisa Report 23 May 2009 07:04

Hi Guys, well i think this must be the lowest low i've hit since starting this tree about 2 years ago!!!!!!
Yesterday i recieved Robert Jones Whitworth & Ann Parkers marriage cert,it was my "worst case cenario"
Robert & Ann married on 24th July 1842 in Middleton Lancashire
No ages given, itjust says "of full age" so not even a clue as to his birth year!!
At the time of their marriage he was a school master,no address given, just Middleton.
And of coarse the worst news ever for me
his father was John Jones Whitworth, not Samuel,as i believed for the last 6 months!!!!!!!
His father was a "tinner"
Ann's father was John Parker,a watchmaker.
Their witnesses where James Fawley & "Nanny" Smith.
So thats it ,back to the drawing board, although at this moment in time i feel like chucking in the towel!!!!!!!
My aim for this tree was to try & trace my Whitworths back to the town, but at the moment thats looking less & less likely. kind regards a totally de-moralized Lisa xxx
