Jane, if you can access that site for Northern New York newspapers that I posted and type in the name McFiggin, the 9th article that comes up, dated 1894 is a long article about the death of 15 year old George McFiggin who was living in Rochester with his brother Fred. Their father, Malcolm McFiggin, a plaster had lived with them but at the time he was in Coburn, Canada. The boy's uncle John D. McFiggin of 4 Sterling St. had taken charge of the body until his father arrived.
The article is very lengthy, I hope you can access it.

From the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, Thursday, October 11, 1928.

Thomas McFiggins died Tuesday in Cobourg, Canada. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Lena Williamson and Mrs. Charlotte Coulson, and a nephew Fred McFiggins of this city.

Another curious one in the Rochester newspaper.
A certain Robert McFiggins, a plasterer fell to his death in 1890 while working on St. Michael's Church. He was 81 years old and leaves a wife and 5 children, the oldest being 11!

Wow you have been busy Margaret! It does seem to suggest that Malcolm, Fred's father, and John D, who took him in, were brothers.

Here's your John born 1889. I don't know how easy it would be to order a death certificate?

Hi there, thanks for working so hard on my behalf
I have Malcolm b1821and John b1809 and they were brothers.

I am trying to find out more about John (1809) and trying to make a connection with the rest of the information.

Having got all the fab info on various Johns and Malcolm it would be good to piece it all together.

Do you think you could find a death for Maryann McFiggins born 1838 . I think she must have died in Canada.
Many thanks
Jane

This may have been mentioned already:
BAIRD, Elizabeth, f, February 6, 1927, 87 years, Ontario, cause - myocarditis, burial - Beechwood Cem., d/o John McFiggins & Ellen Fairburn, both born Scotland, infm - Agnes McDonald Baird, daughter, Ottawa (Carleton Co) 009570-27
I didn't see Marynn on the site:

Sorry if this was mentioned, also:

You could order records from this site:
http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/
There are some U.S. sites that are not a part of the government; you should make sure this is really a "state" site before ordering (I'm not taking the time to make sure it is).

After all of the wonderful lookups last night, I'm now lost. (Not something new for me.) Do you need any other lookups?

Lisa
You have been so helpful in my search I cannot thank you enough.
I have decided I really need to concentrate on John 1809 and trying to find a marriage, immigration or death for him - this would help me to confirm some of the previous information found by you and others .

So what I am looking for is any records of John b1809 in Scotland
Parents Malcolm McFiggins and Elizabeth Moodie.

Sorry if I keep repeating myself - but it actually helps me to keep writing it down. All this is quite exhausting but fun!!

Many thanks again
JANE
