You might be able to find a birth certificate for Hannah, but this marriage and Martha's birth took place before registration of bmds began on July 1 1837

yep, I think you can find them!!


Just rmember that as you go further and further back, it becomes more and more common to find earlier births in the same family with the same name


child 1 is born, named and dies

child born after that given same name, dies

child born after that death given same name




this pattern is often repeated until a child eventually lives!!


I have 5 children with the same forename in one of my families! You can't say they didn't try! But ti does make it difficult for us ....... and one reason why you need to double check all and every information

I believe Thorne is near Belton and so think it must be the right person.
Both are not that far away from myself.
Also the granddaughter of john smith brooks says that Martha Kettlewell married her grandad and knows her previous husband was called richard. Therefore it does fit.

OK ...... that sounds good!!


As I said, I don't know that area.


I was from Lancashire, and my knowledge of Yorkshire is more northerly ...... Leeds/York/Scarborough/Whitby etc

Got there at last.
Found the 1871 census for hannah leather and SARAH NAOMI. Printed it out and not letting it go again.
Thanks for your help on this one.

Just found grandads brother William Kettlewell on the 1891 Census.
age 22, b1870, Boarder Farm Servant at 5 low road, Laughton, gainsborough.

1901 Census. age 32, b1869, Head of house, Ironstone miner, living at 34 School Lane, Messingham, Glanford Brigg.
wife Ada, age 32, b Blyton?? Lincs.
daughter Annie, age 8, b Messingham
son Richard, age 11 mth, b Messingham

Got another one on 1901 Census, Walter Kettlewell.
head of house, age 29, living at 112 Taylors Row, Newhill Wath.
Pit yard labourer, born armthorpe.

Living with wife Sarah A., age 26, born Newhill.
son Geo, age 2, born wath.

(on a roll now, will come back to ann and william when i get stuck on this line. Thanks for the ann and william info, I don't know how you do it, and so fast too.)

Spoke too soon about being on a roll. Can't find a definite John or Fredrick Kettlewell on the 1901 census.
Will try again tomorrow for these two and the others.
