Wow look at this!! It is about a man and woman being arrested for having a gun. She was Hattie Grosert and she wanted to shoot a man called Grosert who didn't treat her right. He brought her over from England 11 years previously and had never married her. It's dated Fri Oct 31 1913.

This is about the 'perm' that was invented by Grosert and Unger that MM had found.

Hi Gemma, I'm back. I was trying to find Alexander John after 1910 and this keeps coming up. I have no idea if it is him but look at the WW1 Draft Registration, it is the same area. His parents were in New York City, in 1920 it was just his father.

Sorry, Gemma, I missed the death of Jeanette Grosert. I must admit I have to keep going back to re-read the whole thread. So she must have been calling herself Grosert even though he was married to Henrietta? Oh, I think you already said that!
Going to bed. Liz? It's only 6 pm.

Margaret ~ I cross posted with Liz, so my message wasnt as clear as it should have been.

I was refering to Liz's post where she lists the death of a Jeanette Grosert.
This death fits with being Jeanette Kelly, only it seems to have been registered under the name of Grosert, thus giving the inpression that they were married.
The couldn't have been though, as Thomas was stilled married to henrietta until after Jeanette died.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 26 May 2009 21:59

Where did you see that he married Jeanette, Gemma? He couldn't have because she was already dead when Henrietta sued for divorce. Nice to see the marriage of Thomas & Henrietta though. Can you find the death of Christina now, Liz?

Gemerald

Gemerald Report 26 May 2009 21:48

So, at first glance it would seem he married Jeanette....only he couldnt have because he was still married to Henrietta!

There are three Henrietta Harris birth in oxfordshire, but none in 1882 (from passport.)

That seems an unlikely site for those records!

This is Edward and Paula so not the brother in 1920. He emigrated in 1923, father's Scottish, mother's English and he is a shipper in ? beauty industry. She is German. I bet you'll find he fits in somewhere, not sure where though.

Liz,
Yes, that fits with the age given on the newspaper report.
I checked the 1930 census, but couldnt find any of the tree children...of course since their mother had died by that time, they could be with another family member under their surname.

True....maybe "effort" would have been a better word than Work?

My head is spinning with all of this now.
Am i right in thinking that this is what we have;

-Thomas marries Christina Heggie 1893 Scotland.
-One Son Alexander John, born 1893.

-Family migrate to New York 1905/06.

-1910 US census, Thomas's wife is Hattie and they have been married 16 years. ~ Assuption here is that Hattie is Christina?

-1913 Thomas marries Marret Henrietta Grosert.
-No Children.

-1919 to 1926 Thomas is living with a Jeanette Kelly.
-Three children; Charlotte, Janet and Thomas.

-1926 Henrietta is divorcing Thomas. Jeanette Kelly has died.

We also have the 1920 census. The personal details here match with Thomas, but he didnt have a brother named Edward and he should be living with Jeanette Kelly?

Sorry for the delay, i was doing some paper filing!

Give me a few minutes to read through this properly....from what im understanding at first glance, Christina died and Thomas remarried Henrietta, who travelled around a lot?

Oh and yes, do appriciate all the work you have put into this, thank you!

Just re-reading the thread, something I missed, that Alexander is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Wow, he's in good company there. Isn't that where JFK is buried?

Wellington was probably Port of Dep for that leg of her trip?

This is really starting to bug me so I got the marriage cert of Thomas and Christina. He lived at Crossgate, Cupar and was a journeyman hairdresser and she lived at 63 Bonnygate, Cupar and was a power loom ?? weaver. They were both 18 and her parents were John Heggie, master blacksmith, and Mary MS Shaw. Their witnesses were Mary and Robert Mason so I would say there is no way that she is English!
