Hi Dea
I have Arthurs death in cemetery records in 1905 and didn t think he left the village, but you have found another piece of my puzzle.
You are right about Joseph.

Thank you

Dea

Dea Report 8 Jul 2009 11:47

This is what I have been looking at Bernie,

I do think that Hamle A is in fact Arthur - this is the one who is a Policeman on 1901.

I think he is a cousin of your Sarah Ann - He was registered on the same birth reference no. as her, which is why I thought they may be twins.

However, his father was Joseph, who I believe was the brother of your Sarah's father Thomas.

They were obviously both born within weeks of each other and perhaps the two mothers (sisters in law) went along together to register the births?

Bernie Report 8 Jul 2009 10:37

Hi Dea

Yes I have seen that Hamle is male but like I posted earlier Im clutching at straws.
Birth Cert reads.
4/9/1871 Eaton Bray Beds
Sarah Ann Girl
Father Thomas Henley Farm Labourer
Mother Mary Henley formerly Janes
The mark of Mary Henley mother Eaton Bray
Reg 5/10/1871 William Brown registrar

She was not a twin but another sister reg Ann was born in 1870 but died 3 days later
Births reg Leighton Buzzard

The only other Henley born in Eaton Bray around this time is Arthur but I cant find him either in 1891 so maybe its him.

Dea Report 8 Jul 2009 10:26

Hi Bernie,

Not getting anywhere with the occupation at the moment but am I right in thinking that you believe this 'Hamle' is your Ann ???

If so, could I point out that Hamle A is in fact MALE.

A 'may' just have found him on 1901 where he is a Police Constable but that is not yet certain as he has a different name (I will work on it).

Could I just ask - on Sarah Ann's birth cert, is there any indication that she might be a twin? - Could you give the details you have from there please? Is there a time of birth mentioned?

I might read it as Provendent.

About the only thing I can think of is something like this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_and_Provident_Society

-- she might have been employed by a provident society?

If you search the 1881 census by occupation alone, for Provident, it gives 23 people with several occupations along that line.

Sorry .
She died as Ann

Thanks for your help

Am I pushing it for another search on Henley in 1881

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 2 Jul 2009 15:49

alviegal - that (pre-existing Sarah Ann) and the ages of the parents were reasons to wonder whether Ann was a child of a daughter and maybe not registered as Henley.

But the birth cert names those parents. Although, it wasn't unknown for parents to register the child of a child as their own.

Possibly the first Sarah Ann died? It also wasn't unheard of to name a second child after a first deceased child.

Urgh, Bernie! It's the *name* I've been looking for in all cases and that you keep not giving!

Born as Sarah Ann.

In censuses as both Ann and Annie.

Died as Ann.

It really helps to know what names a person has / went by, when searching for them!

In any event, I'm stymied. Have tried looking in 1891 for every Ann* and every Hen* in/born in Eaton Bray, to no avail.

Maybe she went to Australia for a while and came home! That's where my gr-grparents were in 1891. ;)
