Walter Cyril ?

I have a copy of Birth Cert. for Cyril Fitt, born 7th Feb. 1899 at 34 Goal Chambers, Kennington Goal. Registration Dist. Lambeth, sub dist. of Kennington in the County of London. Now, is it really Goal or was it supposed to be the old spelling Gaol (Jail). Often mis-read as 'Goal'. Father's name William Charles Fitt, Mother's name Isabella Jane Fitt formerly Wallis. Does the word 'formerly' mean a maiden name or previously married name? Also, they came to Australia, possibly to Tasmania. How can I found out when they emigrated? I would be grateful for any help.
