You can check whether your messages have been read --

Go to the Sent Messages folder at your Messages page.
If the envelope beside the message you sent is still purple, it hasn't been read.

This is almost always because the person is no longer active at GR and has changed email addresses since registering, but not changed the email address on their account here. So the notices the system sends about private messages aren't received.

It's all too common, unfortunately. (So I'll keep recommending that people get a permanent email account at www.gmail.com and use it for GR accounts!)

BULLEY Grace R 1902 F 1913 Southampton Canada Quebec

? BULLEY Alberto 1886 1913 Liverpool Canada Halifax

edit - hold on - the age is all wrong for Grade Bulley. A mistranscription of the age maybe?

There is a marriage in Ontario for Ethel May Bulley + James scott. I can't see the date, of course.

At Ancestry, the actual record of the marriage registration can be seen. It shows age, place of birth, both parents' names, and witnesses.

If you add "Ancestry.ca help" or some such to your subject line, one of my fellow Canuckistanians, or someone with worldwide Ancestry access, will likely see the the thread and take a look. If not, we can dig someone up.

In the 1911 Canadian census

http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/index.jsp

I don't see Ethel Bulley or Ethel + James Scott.

Someone here has a Grace Bulley with unknown place of birth in his tree. She may well be the one born in Australia, but you might want to try contacting the tree owner!

Do you know the person who has Albert Bulley, 1886 Cork, in his tree??

So is the 1920 marriage the marriage to your grandmother - and the 1921 birth your dad?

It's the 1920 marriage certificate you want then (rather than the marriage to a stranger). It should give his father's name, if he knew/declared it.

And the other news -- there was one child of the marriage born in England.

Search at FreeBMD for births with surname Bulley and the mother's surname from that marriage. Oh, okay. ;)

Births Sep 1912
Bulley Grace E (Franklin) Bromley 2a 1156

If he had other children in Canada we can't check, because privacy legislation in Ontario protects birth reg info for 100 years. And marriages for 75 years, so we can't look for a marriage for Grace. I don't see a remarriage for Edith Bulley.

Oops, you're welcome, of course!

I don't pay for access to Ancestry Canadian records at the moment. (I'm in Canada.) But you can still search, just not see detailed results.

http://search.ancestry.ca/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=7921

This is the search form for Ontario marriages. I don't get any results for Albert Bulley marrying Edith.

His form says he was in the English military for 12 years before he enrolled in Canada. So he probably married before coming to Canada.

Yup. The 1911 marriage in Bromley will be him. And of course that's likely him in the military in 1911 that Marilyn found.

That 1911 marriage certificate will give you his father's name.

Ah, it's so easy with info.

Go here:

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php

and search for

BULLEY
ALBERT

and he's right there!

Click on his name

Then click where it says "Attestation paper" "front of form".

You will see an image of the attestation paper he filled out when he enrolled in the Canadian military. I'll let you look rather than tell you what it says. ;)

And FreeBMD has two marriages, Bromley 1911 and Bristol 1920.

The marriage certificates would show the father's name, which kay presumably knows ...

Or conversely, maybe she knows whom he married and who his children were ...
