I did not seem right.

Catherine
Do any of the things we have added look right. Any thing you can add in the search for Elizabeth Bland. We are still having trouble identifying her.

Anyone any thoughts on Elizabeth Blank?

I am going for a while but will be back.

We do all have lives, don't we Catherine?!

How about a couple of easy answers?

For starters, where do you have the name Elizabeth Bland from?

It can be a little frustrating for people to put in effort like LadyKira has and not have any idea whether it was going in the right direction.

Hi Lady Kira and JaneyCanuck, sent to Rochdale for
Betty SpencerJohn Hope marriage certificate 8 e 46
The people at the registerars couldnt Find it ,so I think
I may go to the place in Bow Lane Preston where they
keep the records of all Lancashire except Manchester
Catherine

Potential problem - I haven't reviewed this thoroughly -- but do we know that Spencer was the one Hope married?

Always order a marriage cert in one name only where you don't know who in a list married whom. John Hope might have married Elizabeth Stott.

edit - okay, I see that Spencer is the name of interest to us.

I'm afraid that it being 4 pm Friday where I am, and me being brain-dead as usual after a long week of work, I'm going to beg off for the moment and hope LadyKira's head is in better shape!

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 10 Oct 2009 23:01

they would not have found a marriage between John Hope & Betty Spencer in 1858 because as I said on p 3 John married Ann Whitehead from that freebmd list

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1858
HOPE John
WHITEHEAD Ann
Rochdale, St Chad Rochdale

Elizabeth Spencer married the groom who is missing from the list

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1858
SPENCER Elizabeth
ROBERTSON Alexander Gordon Campbell
Rochdale Register Office or Registrar Attended

lancashireAnn Report 10 Oct 2009 23:20

just as a refresher this shows the Hope /Spencer connection

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1848
HOPE William
Great Harwood
mmn = SPENCER

Catherine Report 20 Oct 2009 19:10

Hi LadyKira and Janey Canuck I have been to Clayton le Moors
Library the lady there was very helpful she prodced a book.
Brodericks Chapelry registers of Altham .We found that George
was born in 1833 not 35 on Nov 1st his father also George died
at 38 from according to the vicar a visitation from GOD.He was buried on the 19th of May 1833.
George snr was married to Anna Baldwin of Rishton her father
was George mother Elizabeth. This is as far as I have got
Thank you both Catherine

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 20 Oct 2009 19:38

And just to refresh my memory again (had to look it up back on page 1) .) -- this is George Spencer.

Born 1833, parents George Spencer and Anna Baldwin.

Anna's parents George Baldwin and Elizabeth.

Baptised in Clayton Le Moors.

I'm afraid I may be terminally muddled on this one, and lancashireann may be your best bet here!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 20 Oct 2009 19:41

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 20 Oct 2009 21:27

thanks for the compliment Janey but I think I am as muddled as you though that summary was helpful.

I am still wondering how we know we have the right George Spencer as there were rather a lot of them and as far as I am aware his marriage to Eliza Bland proving his father has not been found yet.

There is certainly a baptism of a George in Altham (it's online) son of George, LATE and Anne

maybe it would be easier to find Betty Spencer's marriage to John Hope in the parish registers and hope that it gives her father's name

Catherine - if you go to Bow Lane (I gather you are not too far away) try looking for this possibly in Clayton or Altham as marriages online do not start until 1841 or Betty's baptism about 1815/16 to see if the parents are the same

Catherine

Catherine Report 24 Oct 2009 12:24

Thanks LancashireAnne I will search for Betty Spencer nee Hope when I go to Bow Lane .The lady at Clayton le Moors

George who married Eliza Blands parents .
This week is Half Term so I wont get to Bow Lane this week
and in November Im meeting a lady coming from Cyprus Sarah Spencers s sister is this ladys ancestor who knows we may find another root.
Many Thanks to all Helpers
