Morning Dea, how are you??

Thank you!! It looks likely - will order that one! Honestly, why can't people have normal surnames!! Mind you, I'd be having even more trouble if they were called Smith!!!

Thanks for all your help - will keep you posted if/when I get the certs!!

Re Sarah, daughter of Lydia, born c 1861.

I don't believe it is the Portsea one as the birth is too late, but I do believe this may be the correct birth reference?

Births Sep 1861 **************************
RIGLERA Sarah Poole 5a 274

It also fits with the Christening date.

You are right Kelly,

There are 2 George Nippards to fit those two marriages.

The one on 1911 does not appear to be the one you are following.

Same occupation, same area, similarly named children. - confusing!!

Back to the one you are after.................

Kelly,

You are so right - both Nippard + Rigler are both unusual names and I notice above you have now added Cherrett?

I have been saving this marriage ref as the names were both on it but it is even more interesting now??

I should put it to one side for now as it is not relevant at the moment but I am SURE it will prove useful later:

Marriages Jun 1843
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arnold James Poole 8 131
BOOKER Elizabeth Poole 8 131
>>>>CHERRETT Ann Poole 8 131
Downton Sarah Poole 8 131
Haskell Thomas Poole 8 131
MEABY Eliza Poole 8 131
>>>>NIPPARD George Poole 8 131
>>>>RIGLAR Thomas Poole 8 131

Could just be coincidence but it is strange to have all 3 unusual names?

Dea, I can't find George and Lydia in 1911.

Kelly, what do you think of the birth reg I found?

Kelly

Kelly Report 26 Nov 2009 13:15

Just spotted on Ancestry.com the following Christening record:

Sarah Riggler
Christened: 27th Dec 1861, Canford, Poole
Mother: Lydia Riggler

(no father mentioned)

??????????

Kelly

Kelly Report 26 Nov 2009 13:10

Dea,

Yes, there is a George Nippard marrying a Lydia Cailes, but since the George I'm interested in appears on the 1901 census, as a widower, with 'my' Walter Rigler, i presumed he must be the one who married Lydia Troke who died in 1878. Maybe???

Albert Walter Rigler was born 8th Feb 1884 in Poole and his parents were Albert 'Cherrett'(sp??) Rigler and Mary Rigler, nee Best.

And I've just noticed that there isn't anywhere that says Sarah is his mother!!!!!!! Just that he, and the other children, had the same surname as her and not George.....OMG!! I don't understand!!!

and Potty, good spot on Riglee - will give it a go, tis an unusual name after all!

Now, I really must feed my daughter!!!! Thanks for all your help, by the way - much appreciated x

Dea

Dea Report 26 Nov 2009 13:01

There was a Lydia Troke marriage in 1870 but do you have the cert? - Do you know for a fact that this is the correct one?

Kelly Report 26 Nov 2009 12:59

Ok, I'm getting very confused! Tis easily done! Here's the info I have on the background:

George Nippard: born Sept 1836, Christchurch. Parents Solomon and Jane Nippard.

Living with parents for census returns of 1841 and 1851, and his grandfather, William Nippard in 1861.

He married Lidia/Lydia Troke in 1870 and appear on census living with her in 1871.

Lydia died in 1878. From the birth listings, there are a few possible children but those that also appear on census are Martha (1872), Alice (1875) and Lydia (1878).

As far as I can tell, Lydia wasn't married to a Rigler, so don't really understand the 'step daughter' thing! BUT, can't find a birth for Lydia (1837/1838) - on the cusp of FreeBMD so can't say if she was born a Troke or been married before.

The only Sarah Rigler I can find was born 1861 in Portsea, Hants - which isn't a million miles away so a possibility. Maybe I ought to order the birth cert. Although, this doesn't answer the question who Walter's parents were or where his birth entry is!!!! Arghhhhhh!! Everyone seems to be illegitimate in this family!!!!

Dea

Dea Report 26 Nov 2009 12:37

Just one or two points here while I am chasing this around?

Where does it actually state that Sarah Rigler is George's mother?

George married Lydia Emily Cailes in 1865 - She was still with him on 1911 Census!

Do you have the birth cert for the Albert Walter born in 1884? - If so, who were the parents on that one?

Potty

Potty Report 26 Nov 2009 12:35

The registration district for Kinson is Poole and there is this birth:

Births Dec 1883 (>99%)
Riglee Walter Poole 5a 256

Looking at the image the last two letters are very blurred but it could be Rigler. Worth a try?

Yes, there is an online OPC for Dorset. I have checked Kinson but there are no records there for these years.

Could you give us ALL the details from Walter's marriage cert please - ages, addresses, names, fathers, occupations - when + where + witnesses.

Is this the marriage in 1910 to agnes?
