Julie Report 31 Dec 2009 17:39

On Junes 1st post she says

iv got birth certificate for levi ethrington. dad john mum jane kemp
& that she was told Janes maiden name was Balchin

But on a B/C if Kemp was down as maiden name then where does the Balchin come into it

Thats why im thinking June has the 2 Janes muddle up ( no offence June)

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Dec 2009 17:34

Oh arn't we all in a muddle now!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were trying to find a Jane Balchin born 1817 who was living with a John Etherington with children Levi Etherington 1856 and Amos Etherington 1860/61.

Later Amos Etherington 1860 on the census changed his name to Balchin which was his mothers name.

He married under the name of Balchin and had a son Amos Balchin in 1900.

Well thats the way I see it.

Julie

Julie Report 31 Dec 2009 17:34

As June has gone i don't think theres any more we can do

No Maureen I think you are on the right track. Amos is the son of Amos I think.

Julie

Julie Report 31 Dec 2009 16:51

This is a long shot

Maybe Amos & Jane wasn't married and thats why your Dad was registered as a Balchin. Did he have any siblings

To me Jane Kemp & Jane Balchin are 2 different people

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Dec 2009 16:51

On those Christenings I put up for Levi and Amos, Levi's said John Etherington and Jane and Amos's said John Etherington and Jane Balchin. Thats why I thought maybe he had a wife before called Jane Kemp. Maybe he did'nt marry her either, it happens a lot.
