Squeaky020 Report 17 Mar 2010 17:48

Hello All,

I am begging again for some fresh eyes for
a certain great grandfather of mine Henry Davison...

I have posted (quite a while ago ) before but alot of people have deleted their posts so it dont make sense much anymore....

So I will start again from scratch ....

Henry Davison
Born 7 May 1892 at 13 Junction Street, Manchester.

Married 11 March 1913 to Ellen Hoare at Dover Registry Office, Kent.

He was in the Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment until he got demobilized in 1919.

Him and Ellen had 7 children, one of them being my grandmother.

I cannot find any details whatsoever, even after 2 years of searching ...for his death!

And I cannot find Ellen's death either ! Eek!

I am really stuck with these people and just completely hit a brick wall !

Please feel free to ask any questions , I am willing to give whatever details I can to help find out what happened to these people .

Many Thanks

Donna .

The date of birth I have for Ellen Hoare is 29 Feb 1896-She was born in Bradwell, Essex to David Hoare and Louisa Baker.

The last known date for Ellen is on my grandmother's(her youngest daughter's) birth cert - Joyce Davison born 22 Feb 1928. The address given was 13a Last Lane, Dover, Kent.

The thing is , Henry is named on the some of the children's birth certificates but not others (that were born later).
The children are as follows :

Ruby Davison - 4 Jan 1915 - Dover, Kent.
Helena Davison - 6 May 1916 Dover, Kent
Hubert Henry Davison -26 Aug 1917 - Salford.
Joan R. Davison - 24 Feb 1921 Salford.
Cyril C. Davison- 7 May 1924 Dover Kent
Florence Beryl Davison - 22 Aug 1926 - Dover , Kent
Joyce Davison 22 Feb 1928, Dover,Kent.

On the National Roll of the great war :

Davison, H., C.S.M., 4th K.O. (R.Lancaster Regt.)

He volunteered at the outbreak of the war, and in March 1915 was drafted to the Dardanelles, where he took part in the First Landing, and the first and second battles of Krithin. He was wounded at Sulva Bay, but afterwards served at the Evacuation of the Peninsula, and returned home in January 1916. He was then retained on important duties at his depot, and did valuable work until June 1919 when he was demobilised. He holds the 1914-15 star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
2 Sarah Street, Salford.

Now this doesn't explain why he isnt named on the last 3 of the childrens' birth certs but the the place of the children's births certainly add up to the dates due to his war service.

So really the last known date for Ellen is 1928 and the last known date for Henry is 1919 still.

I appreciate anyone's help.

Donna

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 17 Mar 2010 19:22

What about the marriage certs of the children ? do they name him as dad and state whether deceased or not.
Being not named on the youngest?? childrens certs would usually mean he wasnt their father. They would be registered in mums current name so would have the same surname as the older children but he wasnt named as their father.

Squeaky020 Report 17 Mar 2010 19:54

Thank you all for your input !

Madmeg - I have tried his regiment which gave me details of his service , his demobilisation being 1919.

Mary - She could have very well remarried ! Eek !

Surely there cant be many Ellen's born 29th feb 1896?

Shirley - I have only found the youngest 2 daughter's marriage certs - Joyce and Florence - father is not named on either of them :-(

I got told by my father and my uncle (joyce's children) that Joyce was put up for adoption and was put into a home in the Canterbury Kent area with a sister and possibly a brother (I wonder if this was Florence and Cyril- that would make the youngest 3 altogether) , but I have not been able to trace this at all....

Your help is much appreciated.

Ann -

Maybe if her birth date was wrong as I have her birth certificate and it states her birth as 29 Feb 1896.

Mary -

Henry Y Davison cert - I did order this certificate a while back and it wasn't the right one.

Neither of them had a middle name I believe . I have Ellen's baptism entry too and that doesn't mention a middle name and I am sure it would if she did have one.

Oooohhhh I so appreciate your help guys!

Squeaky020 Report 17 Mar 2010 21:41

That could very well be possible!

What do you think I should do 1st?

Do I try the death cert for Ellen ??

I have just wrote an email to Kent county council to see if they are able to find anything out about anything , or at least point me in a good direction as to how to find out information.

This has been frustrating me for years.....

I've heard of brick walls ...but ....wow !

Help appreciated :-)

Ann Report 17 Mar 2010 22:16

Hi

It is difficult to know what to do first if you send for Ellens certificate at least if Henry is an informant you will know that he was still alive when she died which would be helpful
you may be able to order the certifiate from the kent county council

Ann

would love to know the outcome whatever you find as it is interesting after helping someone if things turn out ok

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 17 Mar 2010 22:38

She may have put the younger children in a home because she had no financial support for them as they weren't her husbands children One would think tho that she wasnt living with Henry if she had children by someone else.Perhaps he left her and she then had another relationship.

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 17 Mar 2010 23:31

I'd try the death of Ellen first. It is likely to have been notified by a family member (husband, parent, child - several possibles). You can tell Kent council that unless there is some evidence it is the right person (e.g. wife of Henry, give them a list of possible relatives - don't forget some of the children might be married, so perhaps just give first names of girls), then you don't want the certificate and they won't charge you.

Ellen Parry is interesting, will have a longer search for her.

I'm not sure about Lancaster and Preston for Henry's death. Unless he had family there it is a bit far north of Salford.

Try Ellen's death first and come back to us.
