Felecie Foulger is my grandmother. On her marriage cert her father is shown as James Henry Foulger deceased. This is 1922 so I decided to look in the military section on Ancestry to see if he had either served or been killed in WW1. Her father does not come up but a James Henry Foulger is shown as enlisting in 1918. The address given is 42 Rushton Street Hoxton. The address my grandparents gave as their residence at time of marriage in 1922 is 42 Rushton Street Hoxton. I've downloaded the census for 1911 and the James Henry shown enlisting in the army is there, his father is James Henry and the mother is Florence Foulger. However there is no Felecie Foulger shown. She states her age on the marriage cert as 21 so would have been born around 1901/2. There is a daughter Grace Beatrice born in 15/10/1899 and a Daisy Agnes born in 1905 but no Felecie born in 1901/2. Could this be a coincidence. Could one of the daughters have lied about her name and age at marriage or is this family nothing to do with my grandmother. Another coincidence is my grandmothers first daughter had the name Grace. If anyone can give any suggestions, pointers or help I'd be very grateful
Thanks
Sally

haven't we done this before?

have nudged your original posting up for you - would be better to continue using that one rather than start another - GR do not allow duplicates on the same family

Hi Sally,

I can't see a birth for Felecie, so could she have been born under a different name?

on your other posting there is information that she is on another tree on this site - have you pursued that?

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 2 Apr 2010 16:27

So there is also Florence Rachel Foulger born approx 1896 and Justina born approx 1897 to James and Florence.

have you traced them?

Who did Felecie marry?

Ok - just spotted that on other thread

So your Grandmother died in 1961 aged 61 years old.

Is this correct?

Does anyone know what evidence of identity you had to provide to marry in 1922. Did you have to produce a birth cert as you do now? Thanks in advance

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 4 Apr 2010 23:47

well I didnlt have to produce a birth certificate when I married - didnlt think you had to

by the way, did you pursue that information on your other posting?

Ann, thanks, yes have tried all the suggestions already offered. She doesn't seem to exist before her marriage in 1922 that's why I wondered about id when marrying. The address given at marriage ties in with a James Henry Foulger, his military record has him enlisting from the same address. His father was James Foulger but he died in 1940 and Felicie has her father as deceased on marriage cert. This James Foulger had 6 daughters but none of them called Felicie and all of them traceable through their marriages. I wonder she was a niece of James and Florence or maybe brought up in their household but not their birth child. In which case I guess I won't ever get any further. So very frustrating. If you can think of anyway round it please let me know. I have found a "Baby Foulger" on the 1901 census in Cambridge born to a Carry Foulger - Widow, with two elder daughters. there was a May Foulger registered in Cambridge just after the census in 1901 so I might send for the birth cert and see if the father is named. Long shot but am clutching at any straws now. Imposible to believe there can be no record of my grandmother before her marriage.

Would the electoral records for 42,Rushton street throw any light on who lived there at the time of their marriage in 1922.

I am not sure about England but in Scotland you do not need to produce your birth certificate to marry. Hence the reason when researching up here you find ancestors who married using abbreviated christian names or middle names that they used! Eg Elizabeths as Lizzie, Janets as Jessie, Janes as Jean or Jeanie etc.

You say that all of James and Florences daughters are traceable through their marriages -can you give details of the marriages of Justina and Florence Rachel as so far I have not traced them and Justina is shown as Jestina on her baptism 31/10/1897 and Florence could easily be mistranscribed as Felecie (which is how she is spelt on marriage in 1922

Sally

Sally Report 5 Apr 2010 16:06

Justina or Jestina died before the 1911 census - she's actually written on it and then crossed out with a tick in the children that have died box. Am now struggling to trace the marriage of Florence but believe it was in 1920 either here or in Australia.

Children of JAMES and FLORENCE are:
i FLORENCE RACHEL FOULGER, born J/1896 Bermondsey died after 9 October 1923
ii GRACE BEATRICE FOULGER, born D/1899 Bermondsey married PASQUALI VICARI J/1921 St George Hanover Square
27 iii JAMES HENRY FOULGER, born 1901 London died 1967 London
iv DAISY AGNES FOULGER, born M/1905 Bermondsey died after 3 April 1911
v CAROLINE MARGARET FOULGER, born D/1906 Bermondsey died after 3 April 1911
vi ELLEN FOULGER, born D/1908 Bermondsey died after 3 April 1911
vii LILY ELIZABETH FOULGER, born M/1911 Bermondsey

Is it possible that Felecie's name was actually Phyllis?

Sally

Sally Report 5 Apr 2010 19:24

Anything is possible, I think my grandad used to call her phyl, have you found someone who vaguely fits? I think it's almost certain she wasn't called Felecie.
