Gosh that cert arrived quickly ! - Does it also confirm that the middle name was 'Martin' and was his exact birth date 28th August 1901, as on his death registration?

As Rootgather says, your tree will not be 'all wrong' - it will just need a bit of 'pruning back' on one side.

That wedding cert would indeed be total confirmation.

Brian, send for his 1936 marriage certificate to see who he states is his father. I do think though that you will find that it is Edward. Just get the marriage certificate to double check.

If Edward is his father, then I don't think that your tree is totally wrong because I am fairly certain that Joseph was actually Edward Martin Land's uncle and so you will have the correct paternal grandparents for Edward Martin.

I have just received Edward Land Birth certificate,
It shows that his parents were in fact Edward John and sarah conwell !
so what do i do next, ie what about the people i thought were his parents ? Is my tree all wrong ?

His first wife: Helen Bowery,Helen and Edward had two children Kenneth Edward 1930 and cyril john 1934.
Edward and Gladys had three children Edward martin 1937-1940,my father Dennis martin 1939 and Bernard Alan 1942.
Edward and Gladys both died in 1969,and both buried in weston super mare,somerset.

Yes, I think that is the correct birth Dea. Also there are no other births for Edward Martin Land on FreeBMD. I just think that from the census evidence that perhaps Brian's Dad has got mixed up about who Edward's parents were. It is good though that Brian is going to buy some certificates, that way he will have factual evidence!

Well, I have just thought to look at that death registration which Brian gave for Edwin - It does seem to prove that the birth Julie posted was the correct one:

I can only see the one birth for an Edward Martin Land. I was just wondering if he was actually the son of Edward or adopted son as Brian's father seems fairly certain that he was the son of Edward's brother Joseph John Land.

I am sure Brian will let us know when he gets the certificates, then all will be revealed!

The only thing that cert will prove is that the one we found was indeed the son of Edward & Sarah which I think is pretty well proved already ?

It will not prove that he is the same one that Brian is following.

I happen to think he is, but Brian seems quite sure about his birth year so there may 'possibly' be two ?

What we need is Edward Martin's marriage details - do you have them Brian?

So Brian you really need to buy that certificate as it still looks like Edward Martin Land's parents were Edward and Sarah not Joseph John and Isabella!

Sarah on 1891 - looks good for 'Marsh' being 'Martin' !! - Her father was a Martin (from Ireland)

P.S. - The style of writing does not follow a regular pattern and so it is very difficult to be sure but I don't think Edwards middle name is 'Marsh' and it is 'possible' that the image says 'Martin'
