Coralie if you mean John Pike the father who we think could have been born 1823, you won't find a birth cert ofr him as records did'nt start until 1837 and it was'nt compulsary to reg a birth untill 1875 when they brought out a fine if you did'nt register a birth.

You would have to have a look at parish records or on Familysearch.org IGI which is free to search.

Your next step should be to buy George Walter William Pike's birth certificate. This will give you his father's occupation and his mother's name. If George's father died when George was very young then he may have been unsure of his father's occupation. From the census records George looks to have been a servant living - in in 1881 so was not even living with his mother.

rootgatherer Report 19 Jun 2010 11:03

In 1841 and 1851 there are two John Pikes in the St. Thomas registration district both appear to have a father named John and both appear to be born in the same year.

So that death certificate could be for either of them unless of course his occupation and wife's name tie in with that on George's birth certificate.

rootgatherer, yes that is henry's parents

Flick

Flick Report 19 Jun 2010 10:57

Coralie say she has John's death cert - presumably his age is on it - thus her search for someone born c1812.

Just a sec.............you say, Coralie, that you have the cert of the marriage to Elizabeth Sedgemore - why, then, are you unsure of his father's details?

"georges' father John I have his death certificate, baptism, marriage cert."

I'm really puzzled, now.........

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 19 Jun 2010 10:54

I still think that there is quite a big age gap between John and Elizabeth and I think without actually buying the certificates that are available you cannot be sure that John James Pike 1812 is George's father. With an age gap like that you could be missing a generation.
