Sorry Catherine, I must have missed that for some reason. So we both found the same info, so extra reassurance to Lucy.

Lucy,
If you look back to page 1 at my posting of (16th July 2010 21:38) I have posted his Army record and place of death and burial.
On page 2 my posting of (17th July 2010 16:57) there is also lots of info on the Memorial where he is buried.

No Surname Rank Service Number Date Of Death Age Regiment/Service Nationality Grave/Memorial Ref. Cemetery/Memorial Name
1 TOOKE , SIDNEY FREDERICK Private 21191 08/07/1916 Unknown Northamptonshire Regiment United Kingdom Pier and Face 11 A and 11 D. THIEPVAL MEMORIAL
Page 1

He's at the Thiepval Memorial with two of my own great uncles.

If you are pretty sure that this is your relative, then you might want to get his record amended, to give the name of his parents, and the place of his origin. If you want to do this contact me by PM, cos I have done it.

Ag.Lab = Agricultural Labourer (so he would have worked on a farm)

Lucy

Lucy Report 18 Jul 2010 17:46

O.k everything is correct William must have moved out when he was 16/17 and was boarding with the other household above.

That makes sense and is correct.

Thanks

Catherine Report 18 Jul 2010 17:23

The birth for William Tooke that brummiejan found is the only one I could find also in Essex. In one of the census records he gives his birth place as Horndon and the reg dist. for the birth is Orsett which was the reg. dist. for Horndon on the Hill at the time so it does look to be the correct one. To make sure you get the correct census records you will need the birth cert. to make sure you have the correct father and it will also give you his mother's name and maiden name which will help find the correct marriage for his parents.

Lucy Report 18 Jul 2010 17:14

Thanks Cathrine i have already purchased some birth and marriage certificates, to make sure i have the correct information,

So far everything is correct

Thanks

Lucy

Lucy Report 18 Jul 2010 17:07

I have just been looking at the information on William Tooke and looks like he was a lodger with another family.

I think his fathers name was John,

But it gets harder when you look back to the early 1800s as records are unclear and the cen us does not exsits,

Any information on Williams Tookes father would be great,

I will also carry on searching through parish records

Many Thanks

Just a little word of warning, Lucy, you can find out lots of info from various sources but at some stage you will need to buy a couple of certificates to confirm that you have the correct people and the correct families. Errors are so easily made so any findings should always be backed up with hard evidence to make sure you don't go completely down the wrong path.

Nice one Lucy !!

We are here to help and enjoy doing it but some of us can get a bit 'carried away' at times.

Digest what you have and come back with any further questions !!

Thanks everyone yes i have slowed down now and drawn up my family tree so i don't confused, i just did not think i would get so much information so fast, my family is quite large i have found out so it is a bit overwelming but i think i am getting the hang of it by looking at one generation getting as much information on that before i take a step further back.

I can't thank everyone enough for all the suppot and guidence

Thank You
