Hi folks,
would appreciate help again. William Evans is my great grandfather but I am unable to be sure that I have found him. I need to to this to get his parents name and then my tree will be done!!
To further compound the issue I cannot find a marriage cert. I have pasted his details here from the 1881 census. You will see he is married to Mary. I have the birth certs of their children and can confirm she is Mary Price born in Llanwnnen. There are not that many William Evans and Mary Price marriages and I have three of the certs that may have been them but the ages do not fit.

I have found a couple of William Evans's bonr in Llanfair caereinion but cannot be sure which is him. I have detailsof him in the 1891 and 1901 census if needed.
Any help gratefully accepted.
cheeers.

So the eldest child was born in Llanwnen?
(I went through there yesterday !)

So maybe they married there?Or in Lampeter?

Which marriage certs do you have?

Kend500 Report 11 Sep 2010 20:58

Seems so but like I said there I cannot find marriage cert. have given up on that one. Wondering now if there is another way I can identify William when young? I went to Llanwnnen two weeks ago. not much there is there!? Nice little place though . I actually found the graves of Gwennlian and John Price who I think are the parents of Mary so I was well happy with that!

Did you check out Jenkin Jenkins grave as well.

He of,, Diary of a Welsh Swag Man fame.
(At the chapel)
I am but few miles away from there, and shhh, but I am on fairly good terms with the lovely reg person for the area so maybe we can get a search done?.

Can you post the other census you have as well please?

Kend500 Report 11 Sep 2010 21:06

Sorry I didnt reply properly about marriage certs. I have William and Mary, 1870 Llandovery - both fathers David and ages way out. William 39 Mary 31.
Also,1873 Builth Wells. ages illegible but Marys father is Rees and his trade is shoemaker. Should be John and a farmer I think.
got one for merthyr 1972. both aged 21. suppose she could have made her age up but even though her father is john he is down as a mason. Not sure about this one. Williams father on this one is Evan and he is a farmer.
there is another one i sent off for in 1876 but william and mary were not married to each other!

Hope all this makes sense.

Mary was born in LLanllwni on here and that is in Carmarthenshire and some way from Llanwnnen so may well not be "your"Mary?..

Im trying to find the other census for William but I have only saved the images. can I do anything with them? I managed to post the 1881 census details because I had them off Findmypast
Struggling a bit at mo - please bear with me I need your help!!

I dont know if she is the same one but will start searching.

You dont have the eldest daughters birth I dont suppose?
That address would be helpful.

Give me some time.
The Welsh ones are always harder to crack than English, but I dont give up easily .

If need be I will phone the reg office on Monday for the area and ask for a marriage search.
I know that this area are all on her computer.
But she wont give me details of course, only if she has it or not.
It may have not been transcribed properly or only half of it.
Its worth a call anyway, and she hasnt heard my voice for a while ..:)

Thanks so much. Isnt this one the same family? I have to be honest I was turning a bit of a blind eye to the Llanwnni and Llanwnnen scenario! thought it might be a spelling thing but when I was there the other week I went through Llanwnni and it was then doubts crept in!! I also went to Llansadwrn on way from Llandovery - I think that comes in somewhere but I may be wrong. I have found William again on the 1901 census but now for some reason when I click "view others" it will not work! So frustrating. Mary has dissappeard from the 1891 census and William is shown as widowed so she must have passed away very young.Unfortunaltely I do not have the birth cert of the eldest daughter but if it helps i am more than willing to get it.

I cant work that fast Ken...Slow down..

I think I need to speak to the reg office for you and see if she can help by looking for a marriage..
If you would like me too.?

And the eldest daughters birth may help,or may not,but should be at Lampeter office if she WAS born Llanwnnen..

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 11 Sep 2010 21:47

OK.

Here we have a marriage out of place and no groom..

>>>Price Mary Lampeter 11b 502
SMITH John Wrexham 11b 502

And even if she is the Llanllwni Mary it should still be Lampeter reg marriage as the eldest was born in the area as well?

Kend500 Report 11 Sep 2010 21:56

I think you have the right census for 1891. It cause me a nightmare ages ago because Griffith is the one I was looking for -he is my great grandfather. I eventually found Griffith aged 13 in hospital that night! I think it was the Cardiff Royal Infirmary. I assume Sarah Evans, who is boarding has maybe come to help him after the loss of his wife.
If you want to look at the 1901 census William is boarding with Albert Watkins of no. 10 Railway Terrace. he was born in Worcestshire. Should be easy to find..... and yes please, i would love you to help me. I've been on this for about six months now without exaggeration!!! Driving me mad for sure.
If you could speak to reg office that would be amazing.
cheers,
ken

Lets see about the one in 1875 in Lampeter reg district with no groom to go with it on Monday.

Sarah Evans on 1891 is born LLanfair Montgomery as well ,not Llangain as transcribed so you look right about her being family, and prob is his sister?

Checked the index for the Mary Price marriage in 1875 and it is hand written at the bottom of the page ,so that is why it is out of place.

Looks good to me as it is most definatley Lampeter.
Just pray its not sub district Llanllwni or Pencarreg and therefore at Carmarthen ,,,they are not quick at searches.6 week wait I had last time..!

But this is it on freebmd
