Hiya, Has anyone come across the surname Bultitude-Adams?

My great Aunt remembers being told by her mother Frances Adams that their surname was originally Bultitude-Adams but as it was a german jewish combination the Bultitude part was dropped.

I've looked in all sorts of record searches and can't find this anywhere.

Can anyone help me?

Hi Ruth, I've just had a look on Family Search http://pilot.familysearch.org and there are over 1,000 Bultitude records.

Sounds like they may have combined the two names to make a double barrelled.

Its a strange one as not really sure when the surname changed or whether it was even hyphenated (spelt that wrong)

the person I am trying to find more about is called frances Adams who is my great grandmother but not getting very far!

Ruth, if you want to give us a bit more info about Frances Adams (where born, roughly when, any info you have) then we'll see what we can find ...

Ruth Report 23 Oct 2010 16:00

Hi Ann, I have found two potential parents but the key is finding where she was born.

I think one way to do that is to search for her and her huband Albert John Samson and her children Harold, Audrey, John and Edna.

They lived somewhere in Woolwich area as thats where all the children were born and the marriage was. The marriage was on Dec 1915, but all the children were born between 1917 - 1930 and this is where I can't find out where they were living as no cencus records to check.

Ruth, the only thing I can think of is to buy the marriage and birth certificates - they should have addresses on.

Her marriage certificate should also have her father's name and occupation on it.

I know, but at a price of £20 plus, its not really an option I can afford. Already spent a fortune to date.

Ruth - where are you paying £20?

Certificates cost £9.25 online from General Records Office (GRO) http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ and this includes UK postage. I'm not sure of the rates for overseas postage but still shouldn't be £20.

It's the same price for overseas, nothing extra added for postage. Please don't purchase certificates from anywhere other than GRO!
