Louisa could be a middle name in favour of an aunt, but ......

I think it may be worth getting a copy of the 1859 birth certificate.

Thanks again Ann-Marie I've ordered a copy of the marriage certificate of William and Elizabeth this should confirm the mother and hopefully the father?

Christine, the marriage certificate doesn't usually give the mother's name but it should give the father's name and occupation (if the father is known).

It's also useful on the certificate to see who the witnesses were, that can sometimes give useful clues.

I certainly will come back to you. I do hope it will be helpful as I didn't realise mother's name wouldn't be on it as I'm not certain about a birth certificate for William as its not clear cut at the moment. However, I started a new thread on James Jay to see where this leads me in the meantime.

I have found the following: All within the county of Bath which
Lyncombe & Widcombe Municipal Borough: Bath I would assume comes under.

William Evans: (Price) June 1854 5c 456
William Evans: June 1857 5c 444
William Evans: June 1860 5c 506

Marriage Certificate 31/7/1881 of William Evans Jnr and Elizabeth Payne reveals that William's father is William Evans ( Carpenter) deceased.

Unsure of the next step, but would welcome some more advice, its good to know exactly where to find free information.

Hi Christine, because it's a fairly common name the only way to be sure which was William 1813's death would be to order all of them!

I'm not sure what the death certificate is going to prove re: William 1859's parentage?

It's not unusual on a marriage certificate for someone illegitimate to put their father's name and occupation as being the same as their own (rather than leave it blank).

Another scenario could be that William 1813 was his biological father by another woman who then dumped him on the family.

It'll be interesting to see what other helpers think ...

Thank you Marie. I can confirm from conversation history that William Evans Jnr was the child of his father's wife's sister. Perhaps I should search for a sister of Sarah's? Does anyone have any other suggestions please?

Have now received the marriage certificate. It states that William Evans Jnr's' father was deceased at the time of his marriage to Elizabeth Payne, so not a lot to go on really. So confusing because at the age of 2 William Jnr was a Nurse Child in the William & Sarah Evans family and then he later he was a son????

Do you think the next step is locatiing William Evans 1859 birth certificate but unsure which one he is as one census says he was born in Hindon, Wilts (transcribed as Hendon) I've really been searching honest! Yet others say Warminster. Does anybody have any ideas where I should begin please?
