Hello again Elaine, if you're getting no joy with the Civic Centre then why not just order it online from General Records Office (GRO) - http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

The cost is £9.25 inc postage - I believe North Shields charge about £10?

The references you need are:

Name: George Frith
Year of Registration: 1905
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Newcastle Upon Tyne
County: Northumberland, Tyne and Wear
Volume: 10b
Page: 171

I'll keep looking in the 1911, Elaine.

Meanwhile, you might want to get George born 1905's birth certificate to get all the information about his parents. Unfortunately, births before 1911 don't show the mother's maiden name in the index, just on the certificate itself.

I've a soft spot for Wallsend connections - husband's from there!

Hello Elaine, I wonder if the family moved away from Newcastle after George was born 1905 as I haven't been able to find them in the North east in the 1911 census.

Can you tell me the names of the sisters, or any other family. That will help trace the family in 1911 and from that we'll be on the right track to go back over.

Again on FreeBMD we can find the only marriage between a Frith and a Miller was this:

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
Marriages Sep 1924

Frith George Miller Tynemouth 10b 523
Miller Esther Frith Tynemouth 10b 523

BUT - the only way to be 100% sure these are the right people is to check either the birth or marriage certificate of George b1931 to see what info is on regarding his parents.

The same way, getting a copy of George and Esther's 1924 marriage certificate will give their father's details.
