Ok, perhaps someone can help me out here!!
Apparently, we have a family bible that records that Susan Louisa Shirley, married John Thomas York in Peterborough.
The only record we can find is that Susan Louisa Shirley...married William Thomas York in 1909.
We have the 1911 census which confirms that......along with the birth of daughter Ivy Elizabeth.
And sooo..........Is this just a case of by the time "John York" married and in the 1911 census, he just preferred the name of William for some reason, or have i gone "Doo lally" ???

This is Susan's birth........if you get her birth cert and the marriage cert to William Thomas York, if her father's name and occupation match then you will have proof that she did indeed marry William Thomas York.

It's also quite possible that he was always known as John?..........people do often just use a name because they don't like their given name??

HB40

What info from the gravestone do you have that proves Susan married John Thomas not William Thomas please?

Like everyone else so far, I can only find 1 marriage for Susan Louisa Shirley and that is to William Thomas York in 1909......most confusing???

It might be a good idea to get the death cert for the John Thomas York death in 1953 to see who actually registered the death?
