And hey, here's a totally pointless and intentionally annoying nudge from me too.

I can be as transparent as the next person!

What's a good idea about it, Sylvia?

Is there the least indication that anyone who would benefit from the advice is seeing it?

The instruction is staring people in the face when they start a thread:

"After posting a question, please stay on the boards for a while as replies are very quick. You may be needed to answer questions and give feedback to the replies given. Please be aware that you will not receive answers into your inbox."

Someone new who starts a thread sees that, whether they read it or not. Virtually no one new who starts a thread -- usually from a "surname board" where this thread does not appear -- sees this thread, let alone reads it.

What is a good idea about this, except in the mind of someone engaging in a juvenile game of let's-bug-the-grownups?

Janey

I always hope that at least one person will read, inwardly digest ................ and stay around for 10-15 minutes!

so, I think it's a good idea to keep it going, at least for a couple of weeks or so.

Why just a couple of weeks? A good idea deserves to live forever, surely.

I'm an evidence-based kind of person. The evidence that these threads accomplish anything -- that even one person pays any attention to them -- is 100% lacking.

I'm a newbie and I have read many posts before putting my own up. I do agree that each time I go somewhere else then come back, it takes me to the surname list. However I did read the instuctions before posting and have figured out how to get back to the main looking for someone list.
I have had a lot of valuable help just on my first post and am very gratefull for that, however I have a number of children still at home, an elderly mother to take care of and I lost my father last month. Sometimes I come here thinking I'll have an hour or two but life (or more likely, mum), gets in the way. :) Please don't think you and the help you give is not appreciated. xxx

I've just picked up on my tree after taking a year out (after 3 years I needed a break, as I'd hit loads of brick walls). I needed help this morning and was sorted in less than 30 minutes. I'd forgotten how polite, helpful and friendly the community is on here. You guys are amazing. Thanks so much.

Now let's hear from all the newbies about *the subject of this thread*!!!

I want to hear from everybody who saw this thread and promptly took the advice in it.

Come one, come all! We KNOW that dozens of people daily are reading this sage advice and heeding it, and the world is better as a result!

Otherwise people would be wasting their time and ousting other members' help requests from page 1 of Trying to Find every time they nudged this thing ... for naught.

We know that nobody would be doing that if it weren't serving a truly excellent purpose.

Witness for us! Tell us how this thread has changed your life!!
