I have actually reseached alice redman,have marriage certificate hanging around somewhere,i do know the parish.
The frederick and ann redman in soton are the right ones,perhaps my memory is playing tricks or st marys is possibly a subdivision to which all saints belongs.

You know i was saying that richard bateman was an custom man,perhaps that should be excise man(i can't give iyou a source,although i do remember once discussing with a professional about this).
In the gentlemen's magazine, its mentions a richard bateman,excise man who died in ipswich 1819,leaving wife and 4 children.
above richard bateman not to be confused with one who died in 1733 or the ones living in 1630s-166os who also have excise connections.

If we went only by names, I would have been right when I thought for 10 seconds that my gr-grfather's sister's husband was an Admiral who tried to save the Lusitania! But no, he was just a once-wealthy bankrupt gambler whose surname wasn't even Coke in his ancestors' day, and he quickly changed to McCock then, allegedly in their honour, but really to escape creditors, if you ask me. ;)

There likely weren't hundreds of Richard Batemans around in the early 1800s, but I'm sure there was more than one. There were a good couple of dozen in the 1841 census, and that's not counting any who died in the 30 or 40 preceding years.

You start with what you know ... and work from there. Never grab a straw just because it's the only one you've found.

Oh, and if it was a "professional" who put you on to that one ... I hope it was cheap. It was a "professional" who told my mum's cousin that her grandfather Ernest Augustus Monck (that big thread) might have been from Ireland ... or Cornwall ... or Germany. It was me who found out that he actually was from Cornwall, as his 1901 census entry says -- it's just that his name was actually Ernest Augustus Hill ...

Ipswich doesn't seem to be connected with your Batemans, does it?
