Sorry Janey, didn't realise. I have been looking at your Gaunt/Brown theory and I noticed that in 1861, Elizabeth lived next door to a Wilks family...related???

I just thought I would post everything I have found.

Looks like I'm def going to send off for that Gaunt/Brown marriage cert now.

Cheers!

Janey,

Roberts and Hannahs marriage certificate ordered!!!

Not going to order the Gaunt/Brown one yet, going to see what this one reveals first. Excited, roll on 19th May!

Thanks again for your support.

Debi :D

Perhaps a tad young, but not necessarily.

My bet is still on Elizabeth Wilks 1827 and one of the Gomersal/Birstal/Drighlington Gaunt boys.

Get Robert's marriage certificate!

And the Gaunt-Brown marriage certificate.

I LOVE the theories!!!

Keep them coming!!!

I've Pm a Victor? on here to do a burial look up for me, for Robert, as I wouldn't have a clue how to do that or where to start.

Every bit of info I have on him will make me happy as he's becoming a bit of an obsession...

Very best wishes
Debi

And it's great when people get that buzz when you find something for them ... or lob one of yr wild theories at them ... ;)

Thanks again you wonderful helpful people!

I dabbled in my tree last year, but due to family commitments I couldn't spend the time I needed to on it and only seriously started a month ago. Its a fantastic hobby and sooo interesting.

Its great knowing there are people out there so willing to help and understand the 'buzz' you get when you find out even the smallest detail!

Mel, on p. 1 I posted three local Gaunt households -- lots of boys the right age, but no Robert or Henry among them, dang.

I think it would be worth having Robert's marriage certificate for sure. Recent (in generational terms!) certificates are always a good idea because they can save you from riding madly off in wrong directions right at the start.

Since he was using the surname Gaunt when he married there's every possibility he did know who his father was, assuming his father was Gaunt, and named him on the certificate. Or if Gaunt wasn't his father, there might be some other info that would explain the name. Witnesses are always good to know too, since they may be related.

You know, the more I tell people that surnames as middle names are often a clue to real fathers, the more I'm convinced that my gr-grf and his sister (my avatar), whose middle name was inexplicably Monck (the surname we never knew wasn't that side of my family's real name!), really *were* the offspring of the Viscount's black sheep younger brother who died at Alma just weeks before the sister was born ...

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 May 2011 17:56

My tree I have a George Whybrow Chignell born out of wedlock and there was a George Whybrow in the village who married someone else!! So perhaps Roberts father was Henry Gaunt????

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 May 2011 17:53

Debi it may give you details of the fathers but I expect it will just say for Robert that his father is deceased.

Also, Hannah's parents were Samuel Barraclough and Martha Barraclough nee Ramsbottom Wood...another one with a surname as a middle name... :S
