As you may know, one can buy BMD certs thru the GRO and the local RO (local to where the event occurred).
Some online local BMD indices (incl Tower Hamlets) are available via:
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/local_bmd

The local RD organizes its registers differently from the GRO, and their local ref gives the subdistrict a B or D was rego'ed in. With the aid of their RD history page, you can figure out what this is.

Also for M's, their index gives the entry #, rather than the page #, so you can figure out who John Smith wed, even when the GRO index just gives you the choices of Mary Evans or Mary Jones. The ref also indicates the church, but Tower Hamlets just leaves this as C1, C2, etc., and leaves you to guess they refer to St Francis Xavier, Ste Marie among the Hurons, etc. - some local RDs have a web page that decodes this (e.g., S Tyneside), but not Tower Hamlets.

Elissa Report 27 Jul 2011 11:17

Peter, I think you need to post that as a new topic otherwise nobody will spot it.

Yes Alfred was a twin, Edwin died in 1850, although I don't know what of. can you see a burial for Edwin? I have the other brothers, although the John born in 1824 has confused me, as another John was born 2 years later - maybe he died?

Elissa Report 27 Jul 2011 11:15

I've managed to trace John Humphrey and his parents back to 1770. His father was a Peter Munt born in Midlesex and his mother was ELizabeth, possibly Mills born 1773.

John's wife Sarah was Sarah Ray born around 1800 sometime (that's just an estimate) and she had a brother Henry Ray who was born St Martins Middlesex in 1806 He married a Harriet.

I have talked to the people whose trees you mention, they are related to the other side of my family the Tulls, who married Alfred Thomas' son Edwin Alfred. They have some info on the munts but nothing more than me.

I asked about whether Alfred was a batchelor as I just found a 1851 census for Alfred T Mount born 1828 in Surrey, living with his wife Ann. His occupation was a journeyman engineer. I've never been able to locate Alfred on the 1851 census and wondered whether this might have been him!

Was Alfred a twin?????
These have the same birth date as well as christening date.

Some children are christened on the same day even though they are born at different times but these are the same birth date??

Just a thought, have you tried Search Trees on this site? There are 3 other members who have Alfred Munt (1828) in their trees.

You could contact them to see if you have a connection?

Lynski

Lynski Report 27 Jul 2011 10:50

Yes, he was a bachelor when he married Marian.

Lynski

Lynski Report 27 Jul 2011 10:48

Alfred is an Engineer on both marriages.

John Humphrey is listed as a Chaser (deceased) on the marriage to Marion Green.
John Green is listed as a Gentleman (deceased).

John Humphrey is listed as only deceased on the marriage to Elizabeth Ann Collins.
John Collins is listed as only deceased.

Elissa

Elissa Report 27 Jul 2011 10:45

That could well be a possibility.

Just to add to the confusion, Alfred's marriage to Marian was definitely his first wasn't it. He is listed as a bachelor?

Elissa

Elissa Report 27 Jul 2011 10:28

I've tried looking on the census for Elizabeth but as I don't know when her father John died I don't know whether he ought to be on there with her or not. Elizabeth Collins seems to be a very popular name in London unfortunately!
