Find Ancestors

Can anyone help please ? I have spent all morning on this and am getting nowhere ! I have a Tegwen Reeves born 13.12.1910 and have successfully found her on 1911 Wales census. which gave me her parents Thomas age 28 born Blaina, Monmouth and Elizabeth Jane 21 born Merthyr. I traced the parents marriage and the mothers maiden name was JONES !! Helpful - I think not !

Since then I traced Thomas on 1901 census living Bute Street, Ystadyfodwg, Pontypridd (age down as 23 !) and found parents William born in Wiltshire and Catherine born Merthyr, Glamorgan.

1891 showed the family living Middle, Glamorgan with Thomas as 14 yrs.

However, the 1881 showed Thomas as TOM or SAM aged 4 born Blaina and William born Kent not Wiltshire.

My next step was 1871 census which was 4 yrs before William and Catherine married. This is where I have come completely unstuck as try as I might I cannot positively idenbtify either of these two persons in order to progress further onto the previous generation. Would anyone be prepared to give this a go and see if they can guide me in the right direction ? Thank you so much.

I must apologise people - my head really has been scrambled. Elizabeth Jane's marriage was indeed 1909 but it was Catherine, wife of William who was a JONES. (marr 1875 regd Bedwelty). No wonder I could not progress at all. And yes, that is who I have as Thomas on 1901 census.

Mike - apart from the fact that I couldn't locate another one, the places of birth for Tom/Sam and his mother corresponjded. As for ages, they seem to differ quite greatly I notice on many census returns. I stand gratefully corrected if we can positively find the correct one. I am still searching ! It did strike me that as Catherine was a Jones, there must be a connection as both lodgers were Jones... then again perhaps not as it is a common name I will concede !!

Does Thomas's marriage cert give William, a collier, as his father ?

I wonder if Thomas fibbed about his age because his wife was so much younger?
