Find Ancestors

Am trying to get some firm info on one of my relatives. Daisy Maud Rumble dob 1 Apr 1884 was my great grandmother and her parents were Arthur and Sarah Rumble (from the birth reg document reg in Rotherhithe St mary). However, I am struggling to find any census record for DMR. I can find census records for Arthur and Sarah (maiden name Gatward) but there is no mention of DMR with them - however, 6 other children are found - which are variously ada, herbert, frank, florence, emily and frederick. Also 1911 census says that sarah rumble had 6 children all who were alive at that time, whereas DMR would make 7! The only mention of a DMR I can find is on a 1891 census with parents called Robert and Emma!! An added glitch is sarah and the children seem to appear on the 1891 census with the head of the family called Walter Rumble! I wonder if anyone else can shed some light on this? Help!

Daisy married Gustavus reginald Hughes in 1909. I do not have their marriage cert but I have their daughters both cert (Alice Maud Hughes DOB 18 May 1910) which names her mother Daisy Maud Hughes as formerly Rumble. A DMR was baptised 1 Jun 1894 and was born 1 Apr 1884. Will be away for the next cupel of days so please excuse the lack of responses till later.

Just grabbed a moment to try to add some replies before I leave as you have all tried to be so helpful. I thought Daisy was baptised in 1884 (1894 was my typo!) and born in 1884. However, I now have a 1911 census record from when Gustavus was in India that shows her as being 24 or 27! It is hard to make out - see Daisy Hughes

Not if she was 24 I could be looking for a DOB of 1887. However, none of this changes the 'fact' that her parents were Arthur and Sarah Rumble (from the birth reg document reg in Rotherhithe St mary)

I know from the family stories that Gustavus had a 'number' of wives some not formally married to (however, evidently they all thought he was wonderful and always looked after his children!)

Patchem - yes I think that is his death date but am not 100%

I have him from the records with possibly 2 other wives - Bessie Goodall and Ethel Howell but again not 100%

Great to see such help and I will of course keep digging. Main challenge still appears to be a lack of trace on any census other than 1911 let alone one with Arthur and Sarah Rumble. An added wrinkle is that the census records with A&S R on in 1881 and 1901 shows the other children but the only similar record in the 1891 census shows a WALTER Rumble instead of Arthur but all the others in the household appear to be the same!!!

To echo Maureen, you need the marriage certificate as you have no proof that your Daisy is the one born in Rotherhithe St Mary, with parents Arthur and Sarah, particularly as that one appeared to have died at a young age, and that in 1911 her birth place is March Cambridgeshire.
