Does the certificate mention whether John Rumble is deceased?
There is not an obvious Daisy with Father John in the censuses, or a Daisy born in March on free bmd.

Maureen - Fordham is a good idea! It could be J Andrews! Am I correct to assume that you are hoping to find these people on a census 'next to' the Rumbles?? My brain is already frazzled today so I am off for a large glass of wine!!

MaureeninNY Report 25 Jan 2012 18:16

No-no help at all. :-) Can't these people use their full names????

Grrr.

I imagine that one name could be Fordham??

I'll have a go later on. I think my brain is getting frazzled.

Patchem, Maureen - I now have the marriage cert of Gustavus Hughes and Daisy Rumble (no Maud!). Following details:

Married 18 Sep 1909, Daisy Rumble, 25 years, spinster, no profession given, lived at 35 The Hale Tottenham, father John Rumble, Provision Merchant.

Gustavus Hughes,26 years, bachelor, Sergeant 1 Mountain Battery Royal Queens Artillery, 4 The Broadway White Hart lane Tottenham, father Alfred Hughes (deceased), type founder.

However, I can still find no trace of Daisy with and John Rumble! :-S

Patchem, Maureen - Please ignore my post above re Arthur and Sarah - did not see the second page of comments before I wrote it! Dashing out but had to look firsts. Agree that I may have th wrong Daisy, but she did to the best of my knowledge die a Daisy. My Grandmother and Mother both had Maud as a middle name so it is not to strange that Daisy may have been a Maud as well........ As I said I will order the marriage cert and post back on this three when I have it. Thank you for your wonderful help. Mike

Patchem, Maureen - I will get the marriage cert. As for proof, as I said before according to DMR baptism record her parents were a Arthur and Sarah Rumble so not sure what else the marriage cert will tell me......

Mike*,
Has Michael confirmed that she died as Daisy?
He has stated that she was Daisy Maud on her daughter's birth certificate.
She was slightly old for a first marriage, and I am wondering if she was from a military family, or something completely different that we have not yet considered.

I can't help but feel you may be following the wrong Daisy.

She married as Daisy, died as Daisy ... no mention of Maud.

The baptism you have for Daisy Maud born to Arthuir and Sarah can't be yours as she died a few months later.
(unless they had another child and called her the same name).

You DEFINITELY need to confirm the father on the marriage cert of Daisy Rumble to Hughes, and also her age.

patchem Report 19 Jan 2012 23:17

To echo Maureen, you need the marriage certificate as you have no proof that your Daisy is the one born in Rotherhithe St Mary, with parents Arthur and Sarah, particularly as that one appeared to have died at a young age, and that in 1911 her birth place is March Cambridgeshire.

Hi Mike,

I'm afraid you'll just have to bite the bullet and get their marriage certificate.

The death that Patchem pointed out really looks like the same Daisy Maud:
Births Jun 1884
Rumble Daisy Maud St. Olave 1d 299
Deaths Sep 1884
Rumble Daisy Maud 0 St. Olave 1d 201

Good luck!

Just grabbed a moment to try to add some replies before I leave as you have all tried to be so helpful. I thought Daisy was baptised in 1884 (1894 was my typo!) and born in 1884. However, I now have a 1911 census record from when Gustavus was in India that shows her as being 24 or 27! It is hard to make out - see Daisy Hughes
Age in 1911: 27
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1884
Relation to Head: Wife
Gender: Female
Birth Place: March, Cambridgeshire, England
County/Island: Military
Country: England
Marital Status: Married
Registration District Number: 641
ED, institution, or vessel: India
Piece: 34991

Not if she was 24 I could be looking for a DOB of 1887. However, none of this changes the 'fact' that her parents were Arthur and Sarah Rumble (from the birth reg document reg in Rotherhithe St mary)

I know from the family stories that Gustavus had a 'number' of wives some not formally married to (however, evidently they all thought he was wonderful and always looked after his children!)

Patchem - yes I think that is his death date but am not 100%

I have him from the records with possibly 2 other wives - Bessie Goodall and Ethel Howell but again not 100%

Great to see such help and I will of course keep digging. Main challenge still appears to be a lack of trace on any census other than 1911 let alone one with Arthur and Sarah Rumble. An added wrinkle is that the census records with A&S R on in 1881 and 1901 shows the other children but the only similar record in the 1891 census shows a WALTER Rumble instead of Arthur but all the others in the household appear to be the same!!!

I really must go now. Will get back on again as soon as I can. Thank you all so much for your help.

Mike
