Oh - pity. I don't think the above are connected as there's also a Joseph Gunn Clay b.1864 and an Isaac Gunn Clay b.1869.

Don't know if this will lead to anything, but on the freebmd birth registrations
for Guisborough -

James Gunn Clay reg. jul-sep 1871 and

Samuel Clay reg.ape-jun 1875

ChristinaS Report 2 Jun 2012 10:31

I really don't think Samuel and Emma ever got married. By 1891 Emma had left Samuel and was living with George Cook. I don't think she married him either.

Emma was still alive in 1890, so had she been married to Samuel, he wouldn't have been free to marry Harriet.

When Emma left she took only Eleanor with her. I have a feeling she wasn't James or Samuel's mother.

Oh, well done Maureen!

Do you think it looks as if Emma wasn't the mother of Samuel and James?
Emma has no trouble in remembering her age and place of birth, nor the age and place of birth of her daughter.

On the other hand, Samuel, James and their father Samuel are all over the place. I think Emma would have been more consistant.

Oh darn. What a shame that Emma's name is so common.

I do wonder if the boys (James and Samuel) were registered under Clark?

Samuel was not born 1873 if his daughter born 1880

hi all received the birth certificate of eleanor gunn, samuel and emmas daughter emmas maiden name was emma clark i am looking for a marriage certificate posibly married around 1870 to 1872 emma was born in coleshill warwickshire in 1853 and samuel in guisborough/middlebrough in 1845.
they also had two sons samuel born 1875 and [ james 1873 my g.g.grandfather ] who died at sea in 1898. on eleanors birth cert it says, mothers name emma gunn formelly clark and on samuels 2nd marriage cert in 1890 it reads 1st wife deceased so i presume emma and samuel were married
