Thanks Shirley, I don't subscribe to FMP. Perhaps I had better though!

Thanks Ann for the L.Gower stuff - have looked many times but still can't find Charles Thomas or William. Maybe wrong side of the blanket!!!

I have their marriage cert. which gives names and occupations only and address. Living in East London.

No problems Shirley :-)

Im guessing you have all the Oz records?

If there is anything that you need to find, just ask for a specific look up

Thank you all very much for this help, I'm amazed! It's a revelation in the true sense.
Beverley, that's terribly sad about the bankruptcy. He died in 1897 aged 45, it must have been a hard life. They had at least three children that died as babies. And yes, I believe he was related to the Leveson-Gower family because the children were all typical names like Granville. But I can't find how, have been looking - his father's name was William. No birth or census that I can find.
Lesley
PS. I'll take the advice and post an australian message as there are Leveson Gowers in Perth I see. Maybe one of their offspring survived.

BeverleyW Report 15 May 2012 18:55

From the Melbourne Argus 20th August 1887 -
Charles Thomas Leveson-Gower of Kyneton, a draper, was made bankrupt.

I see that Leverson-Gower is a very aristocratic surname - the Duke of Sutherland, no less! Sir G.W. Sutherland-Leveson-Gower. Any relation? :-D

Lesley Report 15 May 2012 18:54

I had found the girls' uncle and great aunt going out to Aus. in 1853 aboard 'Arundel', on Ancestry, so some records there at that time. But their uncle John Ladd, (b.1811) wife Jane Catherine and daughter Sarah Barber & husband George went out also and I can't find them either. Lx

Lesley

Lesley Report 15 May 2012 18:48

Oh my goodness! You've found them! Thank you so much. I was convinced that Alfred and Elizabeth Lindop, their father and stepmother went out too because I couldn't find their deaths in the uk. or anything after my great grandfather's marriage. I've been looking for years! Thank you thank you thank you!!

Can I ask where did you find the passenger list from - was it Ancestry? I must be hopeless if it is?

:-D Lesley x
