that probate looks worth getting the will Gins - thank you

I have a thomas listed in my searches who was a grocer, though I have not tied him in properly as Robert's son Thomas Mitchell Sutcliffe was a labourer

Gee

Gee Report 13 Jul 2012 15:05

Mel

you asked for Robert's occupation earlier to which my reply was that he was originally a farmer - he was in 1841 but by 1851 he was a grocer & 1861 retired grocer, in will 'gentleman' by which I assume he means 'retired from working'

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 13 Jul 2012 14:38

I suspect that one is a bit too old

I am beginning to wonder if there is a chunk of census for Littleborough missing as I can't find the other executor Abraham Mitchel(l) either

Might be worth me checking the actual fiches in the record office

thank you everyone for all your efforts

perhaps I will go down the route of trying to find a will of a father for Robert which could be a fair trawl as I have a few possibles for his name!

I looked at that one Dea. The only other ones I can find are all weavers or spinners.

Dea

Dea Report 13 Jul 2012 13:39

Could Haslingden be a possibility?

I ask because there is this John who is a Retired Farmer and at that time, Farmers often ran Inns as well?
