The National Archives reference: WO97 / 1343 / 20

He served for 6 years in Nova Scotia and 6 years 4 months in Canada.

He was discharged in Devonport 15 December 1857 because of rheumatism affecting several large joints.

He was a labourer when he enlisted.

Although he had been court martialled once and committed a number of offences (drunk while cooking, abusive language, throwing brushes on the fire) he still managed to earn 4 good conduct badges and his overall conduct was deemed very good.

NOTE: On the original image of the 1871 posted above, Patrick is said to be a Chelsea Pensioner.

Hi MarieCeleste.
My Goodness, this could be the reason Patrick Emigrated to Canada, his son Phillip was born Canada 1851. I have not found the date of Emigration yet, it would be interesting to be positive that the above Patrick was the Patrick Palfrey I am rsearching, I will look into this.

Julia, unfortunately Canadian incoming shipping records start at 1865, incoming UK arrivals from 1878 and UK outgoing from 1890 so he's probably slipped through the net ....

Hi,
I am looking for parents of Patrick Palfrey born c.1817 Langham Suffork. Patrick married Mary Ann Echant 1842 Halifax Nova Scotia Canada, Mary Ann Echant was born in Canada. Patrick died in Devon England, date unknown.

Also his son Phil(l)ip Palfrey born 1851 Canada died Cardiff Wales, married
1833 Ipswich to either Alice Blumfield or Lucy Ann Seagar.

Also was Richard P Palfrey born c,1890 Wales who married Edith May Hardaker son of Phil(l)ip Palfrey born 1851 Canada?
I have not been able to trace the Palfrey family on Passanger lists to and from Canada.
I would appreciate any help,
